I thought he was cramping. Was there some other news?

Nwankpa was invisible the entire first half other than two hand touching a guy out of bounds.

Lutmer is going to be good

call me a SEP homer but I made a point to focus on him and I thought for the most part he was in position all game but then again I don’t wear nylon Bike shorts. You are correct, he could’ve been called for that “late” hit on the sideline. It wasn’t a late hit but I’ve seen worse called.

A factor in Gronowski's struggles is likely Lester and Kirk wanting to establish the ground game and not show too much on film for ISU.
Hawk Central podcast earlier this week said he’s been disappointing for the entire fall practice

Watched from Edge. He missed at least 2 crossers over the middle that would have been huge gains had he just thrown the ball on time. Instead he looked at them then just held onto it. At least one to Phillips or Flipper (can’t remember) and one to Gill.

Lester was trying to get the passing game going until Albany scored then it was time to quit fucking around.

the receivers looked fine and the run schemes were fantastic.

whiffing on Pribula may have been a bigger deal than most thought. It’s one game but honestly Cade probably would have played better.

Not impressed with Gronowski. Not impressed at all. Heard reports even here in Georgia that Brown has been better in practice. From what i saw in the game today with only a couple of passes to judge from, Brown has a much sharper delivery.
That's a very astute observation coming from an unbelievably stupid, cock sucking, racist piece of shit.

PSA: watch #46 on every Iowa kickoff. Preston Ries is a kickoff wrecking machine on the level of freshman Shonn Greene. I have no idea if this will translate to being a great linebacker, but he might be the freakiest athlete on the roster.

I'm pretty sure they slapped a #32 jersey with no name on Braeden Jackson(he normally shares 22 with Weisskopf) tonight and had him running down on kickoffs in the 2nd half. Just a true freshman walkon RB with an NFL dad.

Doll was wearing 32 on kick coverage tonight

Xavier Williams looked great at RB. Jazz looked good too.

Dunker running ahead on the screen and demolishing that dude was awesome.

The thing that continues to fucking suck and spans every OC at Iowa since Ken O'Queef left the first time is that they absolutely refuse to use the middle of the field. Not a single fucking slant, a crossing route, anything that attacks the middle and allows a WR to run. Nothing but out routes over and over and over.
There were many. Gronowski was freaked out for some reason and completely sped up. Have to hope he can fix it but the problems today weren’t with design.

So he was much better handing off the ball to RBs? There’s no silver lining in 44 fucking yds at home against an FCS team that went 4-8 last year.
His throws after that point including the TD were a lot more accurate than his early passes.

Just to add to this, KF was asked a question about Xavier Williams and managed to call out Ries for being the guy tackling in practice when he isn't supposed to.

What He's Seen from Xavier Williams
"I mean this sincerely. Maybe we're crazy, but we don't tackle in practice. Now, sometimes those defensive guys don't get the memo, and Preston Ries is the No. 1 culprit, but they're not supposed to tackle our guys, so that's the one variable with guys that haven't played. You just don't know what they're going to do. But he seemed perfectly fine out there, and McNeil was the same thing. It looked okay. I was a little worried about him getting in there. That is what we've seen. He's just steadily kept getting better the last year and week-to-week, and then certainly in bowl prep you really get a good dose of younger guys. And he had a great spring, and just with Kamari and T.J. missing some time in the middle of camp, it got him more work. The idea of being a good player is if you get an opportunity to step in there, do something with it. I think we were all confident he'd step in and play well, but he's still got to do it, so good start for him."

Gronowksi being too amped up could explain some air mailed passes but his footwork was shit. He also appears to have a noodle arm and bad timing. There’s no polishing this turf. He’s bad and this jibes with camp reports.

This doesn’t mean anything but during warmups I thought brown threw a better ball than Gronowksi and Sullivan was terrible. That dude airmailed warm up throws

I also think KJ Parker could be an actual WR

He was obviously a good QB at SDSU. So what changed? Got his big payday?

Hard to believe this guy doesnt understand the rule of no tackling during practice.

He doesn’t have a noodle arm. His arm is good. Amped/sped up led to bad footwork which led to the timing being way off on everything.

I’m going to chalk up #11’s play to Ferentz neutering another QB. Who’s the common denominator over the last 5 years of ineptitude? It’s like he’s reverted back to 1960’s bullshit of there are two things that can happen when you pass the ball..and two are bad*

-*None of this is likely true. I’m tired and pissy.

He sucks and isn’t going to improve because he sucks. We said the same shit about McNamara. Oh he’ll get better after a couple games. Just has to shake off the cobwebs. You’re at home against an FCS team, not even a good one at that. No excuse for that kind of performance.

Our OL looks pretty good
Our RBs look pretty good
Our receivers look better than our average

He can't be that bad after 2024, can he? Did we fuck him up?

To say anything other than that was just an all around shitty QB performance is stupid. It was fucking terrible, and he looked terrible.

I think Iowa fans are in a position to be excited about even the slightest hint of good QB play, and we can even be prone to exaggerate based on what we have seen the last 5-6 years. That wasn't it. Maybe he'll improve, but whatever, I'd settle for a great running game again.
