I will always be a Zabel man
Angerer sometimes interrupts to excitedly describe the action because he’s a fan who loves the Hawks, but then apologizes to Dolphin who goes back to thanking Norma Jean in Spirit Lake for her 64 years of fandom.

Did we decide if that was legal for them to pick up James on the punt and try and throw him into the ball?

it was so blatant and obviously coached and then not called that I wonder if I’m just being an idiot.

I had to listen to a lot of football yesterday and Gary Dolphin is by far the worst play by play guy out there. You have no idea of down and distance. No idea where the ball is on the field. No idea how much time is left. The three most basic things an effective radio guy needs to convey. He spends twice as much time on shoutouts to Hawk fans around the country than he does describing the action. You miss entire plays because of it.

But we’re faggot Hawkeye fans who embrace mediocrity so we name the fucking press box after him.
When Shonn Greene was a Hawk, I went to the car during halftime of my youngest kids basketball game to listen to Iowas game. Went back in 15 minutes later, still not knowing the score.

Even with the officials taking several minutes for a review, I had no idea how long ISU’s last completion was and where the ball was on the field. I was 100% certain they were in FG range with time being put back on the clock.

I think it’s totally legal. James needs to just get out of there.

The NBC replay guy is the best in the business. Every time he talks he sounds like he hates his job and doesn’t understand why he has to be there. Every replay he says ‘this is clearly incomplete and shouldn’t take more than 5 seconds to figure out, I have no idea what they’re looking at.’

On that play he said the ISU player should have had 2 personal fouls called against him which would have been an ejection. ‘I have no idea how the officials missed both of those’ Iowa should have gotten the ball at around the ISU 40 instead of their own 30ish yard line.

I can’t remember ever watching a game and seeing so many players diving at the pile when a play was clearly over

and the whole trying to drag the returner into the ball was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen in CFB
A lot of sleazy stuff the "officiating" crew turned a blind eye to. Reminded me of BYU under LaVell Edwards.

12. F16s are pretty cool. I can absolutely see how the kid in Iron Eagle took used one to take out a 3rd world military with Chappy's help.
Doug was flying the "Carries an infinite amount of ordinance with no performance loss whatsoever" variant. I don't know why we didn't build more of those.

Enough with RVZ returning punts as well. James didn't come catch the one punt, like a moron, but RVZ isn't it.
Didn't the announcer (on TV, taverned up) say something like "Kirk has him back there because he knows he will catch the ball?" If that's the case, we are fucked. That should NOT be the reason he's back there.

Especially when they throw James in there when they need a "spark" or something to happen.

The run game being undependable last night concerns me a lot more than the pass game, which I've just been conditioned to believe will be bad.

That said, it's also hilarious we had a dead even QB battle for all of camp and in a game Hank Brown led one TD drive, we see no Hecklinski. They want it to be Brown so bad, probably for the deep ball, but he's got to hit more of those deep shots for that to be effective, especially the wide open TD to Diaz last week

I was really really hoping someone from Iowa saw that happen and told the offensive lineman. Maybe send in a backup as an extra TE on a play to hit that guy in the back of the knees.

I'm sure he did after James had a very returnable punt roll out another 20 fucking yards.

The complementary football thing always gets me. If you believe in it then you should understand that IF a team is selling out to stack the box so you can't run- then you should use medium/deep passing game to open things up and make them pay for having so many people at the LOS.

At least our jet sweeps consistently get 1.5 to 2 yards

Complementary in their minds is literally splitting runs vs passes right down the middle, almost no matter what. Not a lot of scratch where it itches.

Lutmer is nursing a hammy. Probably shouldn’t have played. Doubt he goes next week.

There is a coaching fallacy that if you can make a team one dimensional, you have them where you want them. Uhhh….not if you can’t stop that dimension.

When that shit is happening, you put in the 85th guy who won't play again in that game and take him out. Take the 15 yard penalty and send a message. Or maybe nothing will be called and it's a win-win

Listened to Leistikows post game. Their plan was to split it like last week then have the one that performed better get the 2nd half. Game didn’t play out that way, and supposedly Hecklinski had a really bad week of practice.

But Brown didn’t play bad. He had 2 back to back bad throws on deep shots but was fine after that.

I don't think you waste any time on little Jimmy in the UNI game. With Michigan and OSU coming up stop fucking around and give one guy the reps. Last thing you need is to go back to square one and have no #1 QB because you played a shitty UNI team

I think any rational iowa fan looks at Hank's stats from last night and would take that over any QB since Stanley. Early 2025 Gronowski included.

Long term I agree. Given the situation of having field position and the way the game was going, you absolutely wanted the guy that was going to catch it and get the ball near midfield.
He didn’t always catch it though. He let one roll by him like 15 to 20 yards that he should have gotten under.

I honestly thought Brown looked pretty good. No real pants shitting and there were moments where he could have. The fact that he isn't check down Charlie and will actually take shots, is a relief.
