The play he got manhandledI must have missed this. That will definitely get you benched with Kurt.
The knee to the helmet should have been an unnecessary roughness call, and the ref was standing right there watching it.Missing their guys grabbing and dragging our PR into the ball was the worst. I mean, how can they not see that?
Need to do another Illegal Flyover. Especially since it's now been one-upped by that one in South Africa where the plane was almost shot down by the stadium's firework display. The pilot from the flyover that graduated in 2015 sat in front of us with his wife. That was one of the better flyovers since the illegal one. Fighter jets are the fucking best.
What was frustrating is it felt like they always got 3-4 yards per carry after we should have tackled them.
The ref shouldn’t have missed the knee to the head but it looked to me like he was focused on the scrum for the ball. The knee to the helmet should have been an unnecessary roughness call, and the ref was standing right there watching it.
They were down 31-21 in the 4th quarter in 2017 before coming back to win in OT.According to AI, that’s the first time Iowa has come back from down 10+ points to beat Iowa State since 2006. Just thrilled to be 2-0 when the team didn’t perform well.
No, even the ref on TV said it should have been not 1 but 2 personal fouls.I think it’s totally legal. James needs to just get out of there.
It's amazing how many players don't understand the rule. If a player is intentionally blocked into the ball it doesn't even count as a live touching anyway. It's one thing to try and get away with it if a player is a foot from the ball but this dumbass thought he could carry the Iowa player 5 yards. No, even the ref on TV said it should have been not 1 but 2 personal fouls.
Edit: Not ref but color guy.
But most of them of course have already decided that Rogers and his coordinators are all so good that they'll all be gone in the near future to bigger and better jobsSay what you want about Jimmy, but the guy can almost beat Iowa with the best of them.
Was it @newsbreaker that said we almost had Jeff Joniak as our play by play guy, but he then took the Bears job?I had to listen to a lot of football yesterday and Gary Dolphin is by far the worst play by play guy out there. You have no idea of down and distance. No idea where the ball is on the field. No idea how much time is left. The three most basic things an effective radio guy needs to convey. He spends twice as much time on shoutouts to Hawk fans around the country than he does describing the action. You miss entire plays because of it.
But we’re faggot Hawkeye fans who embrace mediocrity so we name the fucking press box after him.
At one point Dolph said that he threw the ball 40-45yards. I thought they were in FG range too.Even with the officials taking several minutes for a review, I had no idea how long ISU’s last completion was and where the ball was on the field. I was 100% certain they were in FG range with time being put back on the clock.
Uhhhh, Blackledge and Burmeister are two of the whitest crackers I’ve ever seen. No, even the ref on TV said it should have been not 1 but 2 personal fouls.
Edit: Not ref but color guy.
I’m pretty sure someone told Rod that was a bad idea.He doesn't do that. At least not tonight.
Fucking hell....
would have been a 68 yarderAt one point Dolph said that he threw the ball 40-45yards. I thought they were in FG range too.
Half of their run yards (and points) came on his two fuckups. 51 was not great either.Eagerly looking forward to my buddies (ANF) pod. They said Epenesa had two horrendous reps on the two ISU long plays (reverse, Flora 2H run).
Tell them good call on how Iowa State was going to attack Iowa's offense, but LOL that I'm laughing and clowning the curly haired one for saying Iowa would be a Top 25 offense.Eagerly looking forward to my buddies (ANF) pod. They said Epenesa had two horrendous reps on the two ISU long plays (reverse, Flora 2H run).
It's been said multiple times in the thread, but I don't think the run game was undependable at all, they were just told over and over to run into a brick wall with multiple unblocked guys flying at them blowing up the play. The run game being undependable last night concerns me a lot more than the pass game, which I've just been conditioned to believe will be bad.
That said, it's also hilarious we had a dead even QB battle for all of camp and in a game Hank Brown led one TD drive, we see no Hecklinski. They want it to be Brown so bad, probably for the deep ball, but he's got to hit more of those deep shots for that to be effective, especially the wide open TD to Diaz last week
Overblown, the special teams have been pretty damn good so far. Punt return the only real issue last night, and that was due to injury. Also, we’re missing LeVar Woods. The false starts on punts need to stop right now (or Saturday)
Yeah Connor will have to temper that now. They did say something to the effect that at least the Run Game/OL is a much easier fix than being absent WR and capable QB.Tell them good call on how Iowa State was going to attack Iowa's offense, but LOL that I'm laughing and clowning the curly haired one for saying Iowa would be a Top 25 offense.
Agreed, and I like those guys. Best thing as far in the Iowa-verse.Yeah Connor will have to temper that now. They did say something to the effect that at least the Run Game/OL is a much easier fix than being absent WR and capable QB.
New kicker went from missing his first ever PAT to me being money last night in an 8 day spanOverblown, the special teams have been pretty damn good so far. Punt return the only real issue last night, and that was due to injury.
Let's not pretend that special teams didn't have their own set of issues the last few years. The kicking game was inconsistent at best for a few years.
Happy for him!New kicker went from missing his first ever PAT to me being money last night in an 8 day span
It's only two games, but an Iowa QB seems to be developing and maturing and coming into his own, rather than regressing. Which of course should be the norm and the expected , but for us feels like the exception.I honestly thought Brown looked pretty good. No real pants shitting and there were moments where he could have. The fact that he isn't check down Charlie and will actually take shots, is a relief.
the snaps have been bad, including on the game winner. I wonder if that was the problem last week.New kicker went from missing his first ever PAT to me being money last night in an 8 day span
Yeah, it was an ugly crying situation when they showed his headwear with the flowers next to it on the field, paired with the distraught faces of those kids performing so soon after his passing. They kept his spot open in formations and everything.
I think it’s more of the repeated lack of willingness to make in game adjustments over an extended period of time.I don't want to sound overly sunny, but some of this reaction is because we all remember 10 win seasons where 8 of those wins felt like having your balls in a vice. But having a few ugly wins isn't really that abnormal or bad.
2. The PA guy was fine last night, and far better than the previous week.1. We're not good boyz.
2. Unpopular opinion but the new PA guy is a massive upgrade. The last guy sucked and people won't admit it because of nostalgia.
3. The concessions situation this season is unbearable. They must fix this. I missed nearly a quarter getting my kids some food. I don't drink at games, but those lines looked horrible too.
4. In 20+ years, the traffic was the worst I've ever seen it.
5. The new seatbacks for the commoners are a great upgrade. Much improved.
6. They took deep shots and it makes me happy.
7. It's a joke/cliche at this point I know but I swear to god KF would rather win 16-13 than pound the shit out of anyone. It's almost too obvious to chalk up to being a joke.
8. There are just soooo many fats.
9. After last week I thought we'd be a typical Iowa physical team. I do not see this currently on either side. We're still well above average.
10. I hate sitting around people who don't understand the game, which is 80% of the stadium.
11. The PR mugging is still vexing me. I couldn't explain it at the time and still can't. I am terribly vexed.
12. F16s are pretty cool. I can absolutely see how the kid in Iron Eagle used one to take out a 3rd world military with Chappy's help.
Every single other person outside of Iowa fans think this was a perfectly good win, and it is. Every single good year Iowa has had included some ugly, sometimes hideously ugly wins against shitty teams.I don't want to sound overly sunny, but some of this reaction is because we all remember 10 win seasons where 8 of those wins felt like having your balls in a vice. But having a few ugly wins isn't really that abnormal or bad.
Better than the alternative of forgetting about himDiaz is a difference maker but Lester seems to force some shit to him.
Agree, yes, I don’t blame him he’s really goodBetter than the alternative of forgetting about him
A lot of the time they weren’t even taking care of the first level before failing to get to the second. One of those games where you repeatedly saw Iowa linemen 2-3 yards downfield after the play getting up off the ground after seemingly blocking no one, at least effectively.I just did a quick rewatch, ISU did a good job of disrupting the run game with stunts and gap discipline, the safety's and LBs were crashing, but it was pretty regularly a 6 or 7 man box and the OL did a poor job of getting to the 2nd level.
My assumption is Barnett and Kirk can fix that watching this game, but think this was more of a scheme problem than anything. That said, would have felt better if Lester had a halftime answer and saw an effective 4-5YPC in the 2nd half, but there were too many blown assignments and the OL did not climb to the 2nd level well in this one.
Brown has to get better at throwing the deep ball for this team to hit it's ceiling.
I don’t think he’s doing a great job of getting off his first guy when it’s not there and through the rest of his progression either. If the first look isn’t there he seems to panic a bit and check down to the back/flat.Hank has a completion rate so far this season of 66%, qbr ~125, 2 tds (1 on ground), and no ints. Not a world beater, but better than i thought he would be. If he could improve on his deep ball accuracy soon hes at least an average b10 qb to me
