They can’t run the ball with any consistency. That has to happen for Iowa to have any chance of moving the ball/scoring points.

Their ability to run the ball effectively is definitely dependent on being able to have balance to keep defenses honest including an occasional deep threat and a QB who can make them pay with either his feet or arm. Amazing how much better the run game looks when you don't have 8 guys crashing it most plays.

The considerable majority of Iowa's offensive snaps vs. P4 opponents this year have been a hard watch, particularly the two where we had a clear talent edge but couldn't counter their selling out against our running game. That's been frustrating theme of the KF era, and mostly comes down to shitty, fairly statuesque QBs that our staff is inexplicably deeply committed to trotting out on a regular basis.

They are bad because they suck. There were plenty of plays for both QBs to make to win that game, and they are just not competitive. Hecklinski had the interception and post to Diaz, Brown dirted a wide open 5 yard out, and airmailed a wide open DJV. There have been 6-10 plays like that in every competitive game they have played

Here is the crazy thing though, other than the 3 points to start the game on the blocked punt, Minnesota didn't score a single point off of Iowa turnovers.

5 fumbles, 3 INT's and 1 blocked punt resulted in 3 points. That's also equally absurd. The defense should murder everyone on the offense.

I don’t know why, but I always think of the 2011 Penn State game. Iowa started going uptempo the previous week against Louisiana-Monroe after what happened against Pitt because the offense wasn’t working before that. They had a bye to prepare for Penn State. Lost 13-3 and looked like they had never played football before.

Other programs have true freshman and second year players playing all the time in much better offenses, but it's somehow impossible for a QB in one of the worst offensive programs in modern college football to possibly understand such a complex system.

Could you imagine Drew Tate trying to play at Iowa in the year 2026? Kirk would lose his fucking mind.

It transcends coaches as well. O'Queef, Greg Davis, Kirk’s son, Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz, Tim Lester are somehow the most complex offensive minds in the history of football that only 3rd, 4th or 5th year QB's are capable of grasping it.

Do you guys know how difficult it is to throw for 140 yards per game or handoff 30 times to a RB? Take only 1-2 shots down field each game? Dump passes off to a TE on the same route over and over? It takes YEARS of experience for a QB at Iowa to master it.

I liked the stadium. It was a great atmosphere and crowd. Good view even from the top row. I went with daughter and son in law. Daughter had yet to see Iowa win in five tries. Game was exciting at the end so she thought it was the best Iowa game she’d seen so far. Didn’t really care for the giant drunk Minnesota fan that wanted to kill us pre game though. He asked us where we were from and my daughter told him “from your mother”. Then he lost it ranting about his dead mom.
