Could be a fun game with a bunch of backups playing.

Not really familiar with the music city bowl as i normally just watch NY6 if hawks arent playing. Is it a "good" bowl or is it a relative of the taxslayer

It is better than the Taxslayer, but not by much.
The Gator Bowl has had 20+ ranked teams play since 2000. The Music City Bowl, Iowa is the 6th.
Dec 30th at 2:30 compared to Gator Bowl historically being on the 1st or 2nd.

I agree they are similar in order of picking, but Gator Bowl has history.

It's in Jacksonville, FL

That means it is worse.

Leaving aside personal travel, there are three tiers of bowls:

NY6
P5 opponent
G5 opponent

within tiers it’s just about the opponent. The citrus has better history, but if Iowa somehow landed in the Mayo Bowl against a top 10 Clemson team that would clearly be great.

To the national media, there is only the playoffs. All else is just filler for ESPN programming

On the news down here in Mizzou country they stated the Tigers turned down a New Year’s Day bowl to stay closer to home. Did Iowa do the same or simply get hosed?

Not saying that you are wrong, but that is fucking insane. Unless of course the TaxSlayer bowl is a New Years Day Bowl!!! that Missouri turned down.

Yeah no clue if it’s true. That’s just what Mr. Kilcoyne said on the STL sports report last night.

Could not find the Jan 1 reference but this is similar...

Mizzou also considered the Outback and Gator bowls, both Jan. 2 games in Florida, but favored the Music City so that more players’ families could attend the game. Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz said playing the earlier bowl also affords the players a chance to return to their hometowns for Christmas and New Year’s.

Outback and Gator bowls? They are a 0.500 team through 10 games

According to STLsboops.pirdsonthepats.fart the Cardinals turned down a World Series appearance last year so the players could spend Halloween at home with their families.

Did you see who is playing in the Outback Bowl? 4-5 Ole' Miss

Did you see who is playing in the Gator Bowl? 4-6 Kentucky

I actually do think Missouri turned down these bowls and preferred the Music City Bowl.

Wouldn’t be surprised if teams had a lot of say in what bowls games they played this year. Anything to avoid a cancellation.

Traditional SEC blue blood MIZZOU would get first pick in any scenario.

Parent of a player told me same last night. It wasn't like some badge of honor, but maybe hoping some fans would show up on their side.

I get making fun of this under normal circumstances, but Missouri absolutely was the better team with the better record and looks like they did actually get their choice.
