Apparently the band didn’t perform because a band member was transported for potential cardiac arrest. I imagine he/she was overweight, as I my old ass had zero issues sit directly in the beating sun for the entire game as my kid refused to leave early.
Saw one of the cheerleaders get carried out mid-2nd quarter, poor guy looked like a rag doll. Also saw a couple trainer types sprinting for the tunnel at half to seemingly assist someone in distress. Pretty unbelievable to hear the PA guy say it's okay to leave the game early, tough conditions for a lot of folks for sure!

I keep trending toward Hank despite reservations about what's between the ears. I can't get past Heck's tinyness and arm strength, with occasional knuckleball.. It feels like he should be in FCS. Nothing better than a good underdog folk hero story, though, so hope springs eternal.

Hank was close to having a really good day. The bomb to Diaz was a half second late and two yards long, but a fine throw. The end zone sideline ball to Diaz was low percentage, but almost great. The sun could have been a factor for Diaz a couple of times. I'd like to know what happened on the near end zone miss to DJ. Miscommunication or missed throw? DJ can make that catch, though. The pick play where it was incomplete to Diaz seemed like a case of two guys not being on the same page.

Some QBs can spend a whole career being "close", though.

Heck didn’t look great. But I love seeing him do the read option. I hope and imagine he will continue to get occasional series

My daughter knows Rod through the United Way and I met him a few weeks ago during a Kinnick tour. Seems like a nice guy and true Hawkeye but I figured we were in trouble when during the tour he unprompted launched into the “Let’s get ready to rumble” bit to demonstrate his announcing voice.
I worked with him on a project many years ago and have been in a couple meetings with him. Super nice guy and engaging to talk with. I'm not sure if this role suits him well. I'm holding out hope he improves. Years ago I did some announcing for our youth sports. There's more to it than meets the eye. BTW...and I know I wasn't good.

I really don't understand when people do this. Why is it thought to be some sort of inaccessible science to be able to know when a QB has some deficiencies in footwork, mobility, whatever? He's right, it isn't some super complex thing.
Because then they can believe that they are one of the rare sophisticated fans.

I mentioned it in chat, but this play by Pieper was so damn good.

Great block, but the truly impressive block is the Center (Winter) just fucking annihilating the DT by flipping him on his back and burying him in the ground.

I was pretty much focusing on hydrating and staying alive in the stands on Saturday but here’s my worthless two cents.

  • OL looks solid, could improve their push on goal line situations. That’ll come. Our interior OL (OG/C) can move people. Iowa seems to do best when we have great OG play.
  • QB play wasn’t bad and everything looks fixable. Both haven’t taken many snaps until now. I feel the sun’s glare impacted throws to the SE corner of end zone and east side of the field in general
  • WRs are better and execute better than in the past. TE’s are deep, more weapons on the field than previous years
  • RBs are very solid-deep rotation
  • LBs are athletic/nasty and there’s a good amount of depth there. If Buffington stays healthy, he’s all Big 10 along with Montgomery, (who is good enough to warrant HM). #4 might play more than anticipated. He’s gonna be a star.
  • DBs tackle well, didn’t get a great read on pass coverage but assume they’ll be tested early and often this Saturday
  • Interior DL will come around with more snaps. Some definite talent there. #96 will be the anchor. DE’s are long, active and athletic. Probably see more wrinkles this year than in the past.
  • Special teams - looks like we found a PR - PK might cost us a game or two, hopefully that’s offset by better execution and talent on offense
This team is capable of 9-10 wins if they stay healthy, especially on defense.

This is scary as a parent. Dude probably had some underlying condition that never presented itself until now.

Announcement from the family. Terrible news.

Awful, man.

They do way more in terms of heat safety now than back in the day too. They're a lot quicker to ditch the full heavy wool unis and put a ton of emphasis on hydration/heat safety.

Just horrible all around.

Yeah. My best friend was just a few seats away. His account...

The cops were there right away. It took over 10 minutes for the medical team to respond. He was seizing the whole time. When they did show up, they didn't come up the 12 rows. The cops brought him down to the EMTs and they took him out through the visitor tunnel. The only thing I could do was throw them a bottle of frozen water I had to help cool him down. I wish my daughter was with us as she is a certified EMT. Just tragic.

Medical was severely overwhelmed. An older gentleman collapsed in the tunnel above us in section 115. I ran to first aid and it was standing room only.

I feel terrible for the band kid who saw it happen. The kid next to him was inconsolable. Just horrible, tragic and preventable.

I don’t know if it would’ve been possible to give fans any more warning about the heat. People need to make better choices. I assume several people did the right thing and sold their tickets based on how low prices were at game time.
