I know that doing performance reviews on a regular basis and documenting employee issues are low level expectations of a leader.

I know despite what the fanboys here wanted, Doyle would have and should have been canned at most schools for Rhabado.
No, you don't know any of that. You've never worked in an environment like the athletic dept of a large university. And you don't know that Doyle would have been fired at another school for that incident, because you don't have all the details about it. Were you in meetings with lawyers? Did you read every single legal doc? Why do you always assume you know what's best in situations where you only know what was released to the press and what was whispered to you on a golf cart?

I don't always assume I know what's best. I do know that anyone supervising anyone at any level should be smart enough to document issues. That's the same at Taco Johns or the athletic dept of a large university.

and those issues were released to the press.

Even if you’re right, so what? Why do you care?

Was everything released to the press? Were you in on meetings with witnesses? Lawyers? Are you privy to the administrative review setup at Iowa? My point is, you have no experience with how things work at a large university, and you only know what was released to the public, which I would estimate you barely read. Yet you have determined you know how the situation should have been handled.

is it basic leadership to do employee reviews and document issues or not?
you are right, I have no experience on how things work at a large university. Neither do you.

I am not sure why my opinion has you so triggered. My opinion shouldnt be that important to you.

@Monster is right. We don't know that ADs at most schools would have fired him for the rhabdo stuff.

Again Hamo is right that we don't have the details, but the simplest fact of all is that Doyle was the best at his job in the entire country. In all industries that buys you more leeway, but in big money ones it matters even more. Look at character concerns with athletes. When a top 10 talent gets in trouble for coke he drops a half round or so. When it's a 5th-6th round talent like DJK he drops out of the draft completely. It's more likely that in 2022 Doyle gets fired regardless of performance level at most schools, but given what has already been said and how good he was at his job in a high dollar industry I just don't think that was the case in 2011.

I'm not triggered. Just challenging you to think.

Did you know that at large high schools the building principal does virtually no evaluations? He evaluates the asst admins and that's it. Who does Barta evaluate? Do you even know?

I am guessing Barta would be responsible for evaluating the head coaches. IIRC the two lesbians that sued the university, at least one of them was head coach.

I dont think Barta should be fired. I also think he's a placeholder, nothing more, nothing less. In short, Garta works for Curt.

Connor’s 3 point percentage for the season is now at 39%. No one saw that coming three weeks ago.
Somewhere there has to be a prop bet on Connor leading the team in 3% this year with an absurd payout

he was a 27% shooter last year

Incredibly happy for him and going out at Carver with a night like that.

Game of matchups, we will struggle with teams that have a quality center, or two.

Overachieving season thus far for sure, been fun to watch.
I'd say, like always, we'll struggle against good guards more than anything. We've played a few teams lately that have been awful and their guards have been awful. Defensive intensity is way better though. Gaining defensive confidence by playing shitty teams isn't a terrible thing.

Happy for Connor. Hopefully he doesn’t come back and gets to leave Carver on a high note.

It is unbelievable to me that we are just a month removed from the Purdue game where they chose to not guard him on the perimeter. Trevion Williams was matched up on him for a few minutes and barely left the paint while Connor was outside the three point line. And since that game Connor has shot 16-26 from three.

They locked up Ohio St pretty good. So, the ability to do it is there.

A dominate big we have to double team has been an issue for us. I'd like to see Fran throw Ogu and Mulvey out there with 10 fouls and not double.

Also who cares? I don’t have to pay the settlements and lawsuits do nothing to impact my enjoyment of watching the games.
remember, a large number of iowa fans view long term contract extensions with large buyouts as negatives towards Barta.

Well sure, that does (or could) matter. It means that at a potential future point, there is a factor other than performance that could result in the coach of the school I like being retained, which could impact on field performance.

I would similarly care if Barta was responsible for Iowa owing some $200M settlement which then had an impact on the ability to spend money on Iowa sports. This settlement didn't, hence why I don't care.

I like you but you are completely clueless on the Griesbaum situation.

we had a head coach accused of mental abuse of players that was alleged not being reported to superiors because of a non-disclosed personal relationship. Not to mention they are both piece of shit bullies who were killing department culture.

this is getting rid of Alford times a million

Both coaches received contract extensions that possibly prevented rash decision making on their respective futures.

Sure, but that's hindsight. The point is why someone might view a large buyout as a negative.

my point is that Barta knows what the fuck he is doing, much moreso than the people who bitch about him.

At some point, never actually paying a big buyout is a trend. Because he commits to his decision and doesn’t get swayed by outside noise. That is ACTUAL leadership.

This is the perfect IowaFan derailment of this thread. Iowa blows out a team on Senior night to move to 11-7 in the Big Ten and 21 wins, yet here are the same old people bitching about Iowa athletics.
