Getting shellacked by Ohio State is probably less concerning than Minnesota beating Michigan and WVU running for over 7 yards a carry against an ISU team that held Iowa to 3.2.
Because we all know how well the ISU game tracks with the rest of the season...

IMO the main problem is that Ohio State is better than us. They are deeper, more talented, higher priced. You can type 14 posts about what you think the coaches should have done different or what the quarterback should have done different or what personnel should have been used more or less, but none of that really matters. In order for us to win vs. OSU we need to play lights out, we need some lucky breaks and they need to make mistakes. It’s hard to do.

Every 3rd and 8 on defense felt like a chore knowing Smith was on the field. Even if the ball didn’t go his way, the attention he got left every other defensive player vulnerable. Even 2nd and 15 felt somewhat impossible to stop.

It’s just good to have that game behind Iowa.

Yes? That’s all obvious but I think most of us are more frustrated with the easily correctable mistakes. Ohio St didn’t make Hank Brown hold on to the ball for 4 seconds below his waist, nor did they make him consistently miss open receivers. Smith is likely the best college WR we’ve seen (holding out judgment beyond that as a surprising number of these OSU guys are duds), but even despite that this would’ve been a competitive game with Stanley/Stanzi like QB play.

Another example yesterday of why I love being an Iowa fan. All my OSU buddies hardly even got excited about the game yesterday, with the mentality that "we'll see if it's a good win come January". It's national championship or bust for them. Fuck all that. Ohio State fans are arrogant beyond belief, and I'm a million times happier to be a Hawk fan after yesterday.

Bring it in!!!

Troy Walters is going to shut Iowa out next week. No run game, limited pass game, I expect a blowout

Ryan Day is kind of a Tard, and Sayin is a fruitball who will limit them in big games, but their mew transfer running back is really good, and Smith is a top 5 NFL receiver right now.

Sat next to the 12th pick in the 2003 draft. Nice guy for a Penn St grad.

I was surprised they didn’t have a flyover dialed up for that game. It seems like every big game they’ve had one.

Hope Hank can figure out how to hit open receivers the rest of the way if he’s going to continue to start.

Hank is serviceable in a clean pocket. The moment it isn’t, he looks like Uncle Rico.

The biggest problem on the offense is the rushing attack though. The OL is looking more like 2019 where they have some absolute gems and a few stinkers that severely hamper them.

I met Uncle Rico last week. He has slimmed down quite a bit from his playing days. He plays guitar and throws the football much better than Spencer Petras.

Which OSU guys are duds?

I actually liked the aggressive, pass heavy play calling early. Stank just wasn’t up to the task in executing it. Not sure if he - or anyone on this roster - can be consistently good when the bullets are flying. Probably should have portaled.

Moulton just isn’t a good back if the play isn’t blocked very, very well. Would like to see Phillips become the workhorse and more Jackson moving forward.

Better yesterday, but Vonhamme still feels underutilized to me.

Winter showing signs of why he’s a walk on, but otherwise the sum of the parts generally just seems greater than the whole at this point. Biggest disappointment on offense so far.

Defensively, that was just an impossible assignment. Obviously hate Van Keck and Montgomery in coverage, but just too much poison on OSU’s offense to pick from. Hawkins isn’t ready - try one of the short whites unless and until Brown is 100%. Watson and Wallace will eventually be very good players for us. Eppy took a good step yesterday - not sure what Merrieweather is contributing at this point. Need ends to make plays given the limitations inside and he’s shown no ability to do it.

FWIW, peace.

Too risky. They might get hurt and theyou are forced to play a statue.

you know, rather than playing a statue the whole game every game
