I can't comprehend the level of idiocy it must take to watch that game, watch Wisconsin's LB's have to stand there and wait on every handoff because they have to account for more than one threat, and say "Nah fuck that let's play the slow guy with the shitty arm".

Finally getting a chance to watch this game. What in the ever loving fuck was this “abrupt shift delay of game” bullshit? This is shit all teams have done for decades.
On Wisconsin’s very first false start, Fickell planted in their ear that we were simulating snap counts. I think they were just hypersensitive and looking for it.

The one against Higgins was probably legit but the second one was retarded.

Not to mention on the ensuing defensive series for Wisconsin- Iowa was called for false start because of Wisconsin doing the exact thing they were bitching about

Watching the game back and Kirk's comment on Sullivan "making a really bad mistake", he can fuck off with that. All he did was get a grounding penalty, which is the exact same thing as taking a sack. The pocket immediately collapsed and he had to run and was going to get sacked if he doesn't throw it, so what the fuck is the difference or the issue?

Being on the road at UCLA is the perfect venue for Kirk to revert to Cade. If he stinks it up again, he can go back to Sullivan when Iowa returns home. Losing games b/c of stubborn pride is gonna be a bit of tarnish on his legacy.

The 2nd one was a terrible call.

Cade, Bacon, Petras, and probably Stanley all would’ve had no chance. All would’ve taken sacks and possibly fumbled. God forbid you now have a guy who escaped and if not for getting hit as he released it would’ve been an acceptable throw away

I’m still so pissed about it.

I still have no idea what the penalties were even after reading this

I’ll stand with likely not beating Sparty still. Whole team played terribly and Mich St played very well, including a Heisman kicker performance.
Sure, but on the other hand, a guy who can pick up yards with his legs probably converts a few first downs in the first half.

It felt like Iowa was absolutely dominated, but they did cut it to 5 points in the second half. I'm not convinced Sullivan wouldn't have mattered.

Iowa fans aren't used to being competitive when the defense is bad, but occasionally it happens at most places.

It is much better, but, comparing it to last year might not be the best comparison.
Remember, Kirk would have not made any change
Curious, why not the best comparison? It’s a team one year removed.

How about in comparison to the rest of the Big Ten?
That is a great thing to see, scoring 42 against Wisconsin seems impossible after most of the games against Wisconsin.

I think i am just scarred from Brian, Petras, Hill and whatever happened. 42 points in a conference games seems like a different reality

This. Iowa sucked at Michigan State, but if the offense is what it was yesterday in the first half (and they were in the 2nd half), then I think the defense settles down and Iowa could have won it.

Either way, at worst Iowa should be 7-2 and ranked with an outside chance of sneaking into the CFP. Fuck everyone for that Iowa State game.

Honestly, Lester should be in the running for assistant coach of the year. The turnaround is remarkable.
The improvement in the running game is pretty impressive. The different blocking scheme and play calling is improved.

Watching Brian call plays was so confusing. No idea what the plan was. Lester is much improved

That TD pass play was one of the most beautiful play calls I have seen in a long time. Gill doing his usual motion he has done all year but cutting it off at the perfect time and sprinting back the other way was brilliant.

Never underestimate Simple Kirk’s ability to make a terrible decision. I have no confidence in Sullivan starting versus UCLA at this point. He’s lucky the early 4th and 1 where he bitched out didn’t come back to bite them.

On the plus side, Daykin was about a foot away from an absurd and ridiculous Tory level punt to the corner. And his other punt he nuked and pinned at the 6. He’s becoming another absolute beast.

You shouldn’t bc we all know Cade is starting.

Iowa likely still loses, but the end result of the Ohio State game was mostly a horrible 3rd quarter from Cade with multiple turnovers in Iowa territory. There’s a pretty good chance it looks closer to the Nebrantska-Ohio State game than 35-7.

The Michigan State game is such an outlier. Sure he could have picked up some first downs, but Iowas offense gave the defense 3 chances to get the ball back down 1 possession in the second half and still couldn’t force a punt. Phil decided to go with Nestor in that game which still makes 0 sense. The tackling was also horrendous. That was just an all around shitty performance.

Cades confidence has to be at an all time low. His teammates probably hate him. Gonna be a disaster when he starts next week

Wisconsin had their #1 defense in and couldn't stop our third string

Obviously Lester recruited Sullivan but he’s so clearly a better fit for the RPO it’s comical.

If you like running the ball how can you not see the benefit of the defense not just immediately sprinting at the RB at the snap?

What makes me feel a little better is that I don't think Iowa would have made the CFP even if they had gone 11-1 with the sole loss to Ohio St. They wouldn't make the championship game this year @ 11-1 8-1. And unless insane upsets are coming in the last month of the season, Ohio St - Penn St-Oregon-Indiana would be in front of them.

If Ohio St lost the championship game to Oregon and had two losses they would still get in over Iowa. 10-2 Iowa this year would have no chance for the playoff.

Taking the sack is real football. Grounding is backyard football.
