I don't know how anyone can have particularly strong feeling about Connor. He's looked fine against shitty competition, and that's about it. Preemptive complaints about nepotism are silly.

Howler thinks that Connor and Patrick being recruited and playing is nepotism.

Yep, totally not a dumbfuck.
That’s actually slightly more intelligent than comparing Connor to Andrew Dakich.

Like I keep saying, we don’t deserve a good Basketball team.
We really don't at this point. The fan base is fucking pathetic.

Todd The Criminal was the perfect coach for Iowa Basketball Fan. They lost their soul when they drove Dr. Tom out of town and sucked the dick of Steve Alford.

Cut the crap. Whatsamatter with you? Jock-sniffers Margie and Fran are going to climax each time their two little boys are out on the floor together.

It’s not how he looked against the opponent, it’s how much better he looked relative to bohannon and other options against the same competition.

Plus he was playing at about 70% and our only good win game with him playing.

You can't claim he was playing at 70%, when you constantly imply his illness is questionable.

Lol. He's trolling when he says that and Connor was likely closer to 50%

Like I said earlier I would be much more encouraged about the prospects of next year if they were losing games in excruciating fashion like Illinois is. Instead they are getting destroyed and not even competing in some of these games beyond the under 12 minute timeout in the first half.

I have nothing against Connor and think he would be a perfect backup pg to one that can get to the rim like Dakich is for Ohio State this year. But Iowa doesn’t have the one that can get to the rim so when he comes in they’re the same team with worse shooting.
I will ask this again, when the fuck have they every had a PG that can get to the rim (outside Marble for half a year when he played it when Gesell was injured)?
The problem here is Marble, Jok, Uthoff covered up for the shitty PG play by being able get their shot whenever they wanted and creating shots for others (and we didn’t even make the tourney with Jok his senior year). All Mike had to do was get it across half court and get it to one of those guys. He fucked that up a lot, as we all know. You also had Aaron White in there busting his ass for boards every game and getting easy points.

It’s asking a lot for Joe to fill the Marble/Jok/Uthoff role right away, as much as I like him.

It’s why the tourney NEXT year will be tough. That’s aside from the Big Ten almostly certainly being better as a whole and the likely still existing roster balance issues.

Yes- this is why complaining about the PG position is fucking stupid. bohannon would be a great PG for this team if there was any talent around him. The problem is the rest of the roster, outside maybe 2 or 3 players, is dogshit.

Yeah, Moss is a far bigger problem than Jordan in my opinion. Plus a lack of a scoring SF.

It is hard to exaggerate how fucking terrible moss is at all the little things.

Lol what? A good pg does not prevent us from having lazy dumbfucks.

Moss has talent. He was given a golden opportunity on a platter this year and he has completely disappointed. I would be surprised if he stuck around. He clearly has no interest in playing hard or making good decisions.

Jordan is also extremely lazy on D, but I give him a bit of a pass due to his physical limitations and the load he is being asked to carry.

LOL. Yes, that's certainly true, LWade.

But a good PG kind of runs the whole fucking offense and creates easier opportunities for his teammates, so you don't have to rely on Nicholas fucking Baer to take his man off the dribble to get inside 30 feet on the opposing team as the shot clock winds down.

Players have never benefited from having a good PG, which is why Fran doesn't really need one. Guys like Brady can play PG if need be, because the offense really flows when he's on the court and it really doesn't matter who is running the offense.

I would take any guard that can penetrate past the three point line and stay in front of his fucking man. Ideally that’s a point guard but if that person wants to be a SG or SF type I’d take that too. Fucking awful backcourt

bohannon is never going to be a great PG. When you're that awful defensively you can't be great. That and the fact that he cries whenever something bad happens aren't great traits for PGs.

LOL at Bader acting like Gesell and bohannon were on similar levels defensively. Gesell struggled against top tier PGs but overall he played decent position defense. bohannon can't keep Dakich in front of him. For what good he does offensively he gives more up on the defensive end along with his dumb turnovers.

Is bohannon wholly different than Jeff Horner? Both can/could shoot and set up the offense, but I don’t recall Horner doing much inside the three point line. He was a better passer than bohannon but not as good of a scorer - at least by how I am remembering him and that’s later in his career.

In a year or two, I think this team could look a lot like the 05-06 team.

Horner - bohannon
Henderson - ? Connor or Dailey
Haluska - Weiskamp
Brunner - Cook
Hansen - Garza

Nunge as a backup to the 4/5 and the 4 mentioned guards at the 1-3 give you what should be a good top 7.

Offensively they are probably as good or better than that group, but I can’t see them getting anywhere near them defensively. Horner was bigger and more physical and actually tried on defense.

I really like Cook, but he’s not the same rebounder that Bru was. He still has 2 years so time will tell.

bohannon is not a PG. He's serviceable PG when needed. He had Jok next to him last year, yet we still missed the NCAA's and lost in the 2nd round of the NIT. These issues surfaced last year and in previous years as well. I'm sick of these stupid fucks trying to argue otherwise.

I believe he'd be incredibly effective at the #2 while paired with a good PG and not being asked to play outside his limitations. The kid can flat out shoot and brings energy out there. Defensively, he's a liability but it's magnified by the poor play of others around him as well. If we had a PG and backup guard that could play decent perimeter defense and not allow dribble penetration, (which causes everything else to break down) I guarantee we wouldn't be having this discussion right now

Agree to disagree. He is a really good passer (although he has made some pretty terrible decisions this year trying to do too much), does a great job pushing the ball in transition, and is a good enough ball handler. Being a lights out shooter and bad at defense doesn’t mean he’s not a PG.

bohannon would be an excellent fit at PG for a team like Michigan who has other players who can create and initiate offense in the half court.

Lol. This would be great if your boy didn't supposedly throw a hissy fit and threaten to transfer when they dared play anyone else at the PG spot and move him to SG.

That could very well be true, but would you also have him defend the other team's PG? Also, he plays for Iowa, a team with a complete absence of those players in the backcourt.

1 or 2 doesn’t matter. He does need to be with another guard who can play defense and initiate offense/get in the lane. He also needs to play fewer minutes. I think Wieskamp can do a lot, and Connor will help. We could use a Bryce Cartwright guy.

We won’t be great unless we get a great pg, but we can be decent without one.

I want to point out that you lack reading comprehension. For an email jockey, that's a bit alarming. I just find bohannon to be extremely productive given his limitations. There's no denying Cook's talent, but he'd be much more effective with quicker guards who can get dribble penetration and allow him space for his bread n butter play. I also have a nagging feeling that he would have developed more so in a different program but that's just pure speculation in my part and I'd have zero issues with objecting to that. I think we have some good (or outstanding) individual talent on this team, just missing key that would make for a better team

Let me clarify, I'm talking about when he hits a couple big threes, not his defensive efforts. Other players feed off on that.

You'd be correct in that I'm not quite as religious as following Iowa basketball or basketball in general as you, but I think we can both agree Iowa isn't a very good team this year despite the collection of some good, young talent on this team.

He really brought the energy to the team when he hit 3 big threes in a row and then Iowa immediately gave up a 12-0 run against fucking Rutgers. The players really fed off that.

Well once those three happened our retarded coach subbed all five players out. Hard to feed off energy from the bench

Ok. The JBo brings energy out there statement is pretty hilarious.

Cook brings energy. Hell, Baer brings energy for about 3 minutes until he needs his inhaler. JBo brings energy? Lolol

He really brought the energy to the team when he hit 3 big threes in a row and then Iowa immediately gave up a 12-0 run against fucking Rutgers. The players really fed off that.
Well once those three happened our retarded coach subbed all five players out. Hard to feed off energy from the bench
Not really that time, Rutgers had already scored 6 or 8 of the points.

Marble, Jok, Uthoff covered up for the shitty PG play by being able get their shot whenever they wanted and creating shots for others
Yes- this is why complaining about the PG position is fucking stupid. bohannon would be a great PG for this team if there was any talent around him. The problem is the rest of the roster, outside maybe 2 or 3 players, is dogshit.
bohannon is not a PG.

If we had a PG and backup guard that could play decent perimeter defense and not allow dribble penetration, (which causes everything else to break down) I guarantee we wouldn't be having this discussion right now
We missed the NCAAs last year because Tyler Cook got hurt and Fran thought Williams was way better than he was. Jordan salvaged our entire season last year.

There's no denying JBo had a great year last season as a FR. The team chemistry or whatever it is, is just not there this year. I also think we're wasting his talents at PG, but he's the best we got.

Mike Henderson was a fantastic perimeter defender, Haluska was pretty good, and they had the best shot blocker in modern Iowa history to clean up any mistakes that were made by the back court. And, for all his faults, Alford was a pretty darn good defensive coach.

Allow me to summarize this thread.

Iowa doesn’t have a point guard, but that isn’t a big problem because the rest of the team is shitty. They get significantly better talent at the 2 & 3 then a true point guard isn’t necessary.

By the way, nobody consistently plays defense.

If only there were a party responsible for these things.

Iowa fans tend to overestimate JB’s entire season based on the final 3rd of his games, which were fantastic.
