TAKIN CHARGES IN PRACTICE Y’ALL
That's Fran's way of saying: "CJ is a competitor. We thought he was pushing for a strong rotation role, but it made sense to redshirt him. This guy is a competitor -- he was forcing his way into minutes. It's incredibly unfortunate he broke a few ribs."

Did Connor get a redshirt last year? That AYA video listed him as a sophomore.

I’m sure this has been discussed already but I’m not DMOFR so piss off.

Was at the event tonight and it was peak Fran.

Gushed on Weiskamp as expected and called Cook one of the best players in the country.

He closed by saying something like, some people think we’ll be good. Some think we’ll be bad. We think we’ll be pretty dang good.

Very cool event overall. Not a lot of people, so it’s pretty easy to talk with any of the coaches, Barta, former players, and have a cocktail with Bobby Hansen.

He’s a sophomore academically. Heck he’s probably a junior academically. Smart kid.

Fundraiser for adolescent and young adult cancer program. Raises a couple hundred thousand per year. It’s similar to the kick off lunch that Kirk does. The focus is on the cancer program, but the coaches get up and talk about the plauers and upcoming season. This one is put on by Margaret and her friends, so it has a more gala/cocktail party type atmosphere. Its held on the Carver court. Mostly locals, but I did bump into Gasser and his wife.

Some very cool auction items, including tickets and team plane ride to away giant douche game and a package for flight/hotel/tickets to the games in NYC. I think the same guy buys the team plane package every year and then donates it to a kid with cancer and their family to go.

Fran is awesome and Iowa is going to be really good this year. They will be Top 4 of the Big Ten.

I’ve been trying to decide on this. On the one hand they laid a giant egg last year, so it’s understandable the lack of preseason expectations they are getting from the media. But on the other hand, last season’s team had the talent to finish top half in the Big Ten and had they done so I’ll bet they would have some Top 4 type of expectations.

Add JW to the mix, and realizing that had they even been below average on defense last season they would have been a decent team... it’s hard not to be excited about their chances this year. Excited enough to buy season tickets or a package instead of a couple of single games? Still deciding. I got burned badly last season. Lol.

My decision on Frans future will be made after this year. If we don’t make the tourney it’s time to see what else is out there. If there isn’t an obvious hire, give him one more year.

Connor is giving me a “I’m good enough to move Jordan off the ball for 15 mpg” vibe this year

Better than Anthony Tucker's random message he got from a fan on Facebook.
Yet not as good as “Life as a G”.
I've shared the story of Guy Rucker showing up alone at Daryl Moore's black tie wedding dressed like ODB, acting embarrassed and nervous as shit, and then ending up the star of the night gladhanding with every Iowa basketball swell in the room and soaking up a program's worth of love. That was a cool thing to see.

Do we know if Fran is flexible enough to play zone as needed? He clearly has acknowledged the need for defensive emphasis, however I fear he is anti-zone.

I’d be shocked if a Bobby Knight disciple like Fran would ever even have a zone d in his arsenal, personally.

The fran coached zone is one of the worst defensive parts of his teams

Baer/Nunge at the SF was the worst defensive part of the team. Mix in a slow/hobbled bohannon and Cook giving minimal defensive effort and you get last years zone.

Weiskamp takes care of one of the problems and hopefully Cook tries a little and maybe they won't be complete garbage.

I still can't believe how efficient they were offensively considering they had limited transition opportunities because of the defense, were turnover machines, and basically played without a SF all year. This year is going to be fun with Weiskamp and Connor filling some huge holes.

Some of the offensive efficiency was due to being down 20+ in way too many games. No way does the other team’s defense give as much of a shit in that situation. I still think this team is good on offense, just not as good as the stats indicated last year.
