I think they are moving some of the athletic facilities on the south side of the road due to flood issues too. You don’t need to move carver, spend $10mm and improve the neighborhood. PBA is built in a former waste site.

Also, obviously it would be better but I’m just saying that it wouldn’t be worth a couple hundred million dollars. Plus you would need new practice space too.

The parking does not suck for old folks. It’s literally right next to carver.
They could still use the practice areas at CHA. No need to have them both in the same facility.
That would be dumb. They still shoot and practice in carver a lot.

I’ve argued this over the years and can’t figure out why people think carver feels so far away. The parking lot is a fucking $2500 premium parking spot for football.

If its built in downtown iowa city its going to be a used for a lot of events outside of Iowa basketball. there are going to be a lot of times using the existing pace makes more sense than dealing with everything around an ongoing event downtown.

Isn’t pretty rare that a practice facility is miles from the arena? ISU is one of the only examples I can think of.

It's a combination of things.

12-15 home basketball games on various days/nights of the week vs. 6 Saturdays. Also trudging out in the shitty winter weather at night vs. spending a nice fall Saturday afternoon out in the sun.

Also, the freshmen this year were in kindergarten during Horner/Brunner's senior year. Not a lot of great Hawkeye basketball in their formative years.

Nebrantska as well, which is the arena model you seem to be most wanting

If we’re going to talk about things that will never happen let’s talk about me getting laid

No one wants to talk about things that could never happen.

I enjoy talking about the downtown arena, or ways to make carver more of a draw such as a small town center type area, or having actual black players. The downtown arena concept is absolutely no way financially or logistically viable right now. Maybe in 20 years.

It's a great idea.
If we are thinking cutting edge here, why don’t we use modern holographic technology to project the likeness of the students into their seats while they watch the game from the comfort of the dorm room? Carver is full and the students don’t have to leave.

Was that story a couple weeks ago a made up story or did you get laid?

I'm pulling for you and think you are a good guy, but quit with this woe-is-me shit.

You're stupid and always have been.
I really see no reason why wouldn’t spend $200,000,000 for property and a building and another $50,000,000 in infrastructure to get more students to the games. I mean I’m sure we could service the debt by charging more for student students. I mean parents don’t really notice $400,000 charges to the ubill.

I missed Iowa/UConn live. One thing encouraging with Cook's game that I don't really remember is he seems improved on gathering at the perimeter and putting it on the deck. Over powers small ball 4s probably too quick for regular 4s.

I also liked Fraschilla's "bug eyes" comments on Cook like he's ready to shank you.

It really isn't. Tear down the Pentacrest apartments and everything else on the block of Burlington/Court/Madison, and Gable Arena is accessible to both East and West Campus and pretty much everything else of import.

Once the new arena opens in Coralville, I imagine Carver will only host University related events

Is the Pentacrest apartments a big enough parcel? Just drawing simple polygons on Johnson County GIS indicates that it's a 3.3 acre lot. Carver is 4.4 acres for just the arena and 6.1 acres with the offices behind it. The Old Capital Mall is 4.2 acres without the parking lot and 5.5 with it. The Iowa River Arena is being built on a 1 acre lot? That seems too small for a 6,000 capacity arena but I guess not.

There are plans to tear those apartments down and a developer is going to turn it into 3 or 4 15 story multi use buildings. They had to get special permission from the city to go that high but it seems to be the trend downtown.

There's a way to improve the atmosphere that won't cost a dime. Start winning

Our fans have repeatedly proven this wrong. Not that we get bad crowds but even when we were good we didn’t sell out some huge games.

The bottom line is that our fans in general are entitled and lazy.

Iowa volleyball is moving matches to Coralville
for scheduling reasons? Which if true, shows Carver could still have a lot of use if they were to build a new arena for mainly basketball
No, for atmosphere reasons

I still don't think volleyball will fill a 15,000 seat arena even if they win the national championship.

Dude, programs like Duke have struggled to get students into the stadium. It's an issue that all of collegiate athletics seem to be dealing with.

We do pretty decent with overall attendance numbers. The problem is atmosphere. The design of Carver is just so stupid. Now they want to have luxury seating like other schools but can't because of the layout. So instead the stick a picnic table on the top row.
