At some point he's going to learn how to finish at the rim.
Which is weird because that’s kind of what we expected his big strength to be coming out of high school. Moss shooting the way he is right now is pretty similar, but maybe even more important, than the hot streak that Baer and Uhl went on a few years back that vaulted Iowa into the top 5. It’s a good time to have Iowa’s toughest portion of the schedule coming up.

My sources give Iowa a 58% chance of going 2-2 or better in the next 4. Their estimate of 79% to go 2-2 or worse is fake news. 7-5 with an easy stretch after that would be pretty nice.

4-0 3%
3-1 18%
2-2 37%
1-3 32%
0-4 10%

I dunno that it's fair to lump Baer in with that Uhl stretch. Baer has been a good shooter every season except last year.

Yea, that’s fair. But at the time it felt like a bonus that we didn’t expect to get from him. I’m not sure how you gameplay Iowa right now when guys like Moss and Baer are hitting

Having all 5 starers averaging double figures now is great. bohannon back up to 40% from three. Moss and Weiskamp above 45% from three.

The shooting along with the big to big action is very hard for teams to handle. The fact they are starting to connect on defense is even more encouraging.

The big thing the next 2 weeks will be to ignore any bullshit and keep their heads up if they lose 3 or 4 games.

I have a copy of the fake ESPN magazine with Iowa on the cover that they gave out prior to the 2003 Buffalo game.

@Geese start the fucking thread you dope

Michigan State not surprisingly is unstoppable at home. They are pounding a good Maryland team by about 20 tonight in a game that was over in the first few minutes.

The road, like most teams, is a much different story. Lost at a neutral site to Kansas. Lost on the road at Louisville. Close game at Rutgers. 4 point game at Florida. 3 point game at Ohio State with a couple of minutes to go and 6 point game at Nebrantska.

Iowa should have a fighting chance on Thursday.

MSU has won 20 straight regular-season Big Ten games, tied for the fifth longest streak in conference history.

As one says, fifth longest streaks were made to be broken.

Iowa-Michigan State on a Thursday night = 100% chance of drunken @howler . Whether it’s the giddy or the surly version remains to be seen.

If the Hawks go 2-2 over the next 4 they will be in pretty good position to cement an NCAA bid soon after. Anything better than that and I might be predicting a final four.

It’s really fucking weird.
He wants to has his ass kissed when he’s in Ames. It’s nothing more than that.

If he continues to compliment them and talk about how amazing everything within their program is, he gets asked for photos, autographs, etc - and is hailed as an expert by those neckbeards.

Ego.

Oh god. We painted her farmhouse multiple times growing up. Once about 10 years ago, it was 9 in the morning and I had to go to the bathroom. I took a shit in her toilet and clogged it up to the point that we were carrying 5 gallon buckets of poopy water to the field to dump out.

I was thinking about this the other day, and what if we get Tony Carr in the 2016 class instead of Jordan. We would have probably made the tournament in 2017. But Jordan is also becoming a beloved player in his own right and assuming he can finish strong with two tourney appearances and maybe a couple wins it might have been worth it. I just love seeing the instate kids have success and continue the program tradition. I mean iowa State is a good program but they have absolutely no idea what that feels like.

I mean that Weezy story is Chris Street level shit and what brings casual fans back.

Was Iowa really in the running for Carr? I remember it was mentioned they offered him and Stephens but that was about it.

Yeah their only Iowa guy in recent memory is Jacobsen, no? Despite the hate from most Iowa fans he's been pretty good for them. It honestly seems like it means more to him there than it did at Nebrantska. I wasn't disappointed when Iowa didn't offer/get him in HS and I wasn't disappointed when Iowa didn't offer/take him as a transfer but damn if he hasn't exceeded expectations a bit.

On a related note provided this turns out to be a good or better season, one of the top five moments this year has to be Pemsl coming out of nowhere and pwning Iowa State. It's totally not a coincidence he suited up for that as a last game this year. I wish he would get back the donkey booty still but my like of Pemsl has gone up like 500% since that day.

I don’t think so, I just know he was one of the first PGs we offered and he was really good so I used him as the example.

Who knows what is going to happen, but the schedule looks better now than it did a few days ago. Michigan is looking beatable, Indiana is reeling and should be competitive with Michigan State.

bohannon should start putting up some epic 3 pt streaks provided Weiskamp and Moss continue shooting at or near their recent 3 point clip (takes heat off) and especially while Connor is also in the game. Really allows bohannon to play off the ball in half court sets while not creating a scenario where you've got llike two 6'0 guys out there on defense.

It does warrant mentioning I thikn the best JBo is shooting off the dribble in transition scenarios. Most of his top of the key 25' footers seem to be in scramble situations if not outright tempo pushing breaks.

I think we're so shell shocked from last year and prior late season collapses that people still obsessing are over making the tournament when its increasingly likely we're playing for seeding and trying not to be on a 8/9 line. We're a 6 in Lunardis latest bracket and I'm pretty sure still in even we go 0-4 over the next four.

Yeah, Jacobson has been good and he’s the only non-scrub example. I can’t think of any recent iowa player that chose ISU over Iowa. They have been better than us coming out of the Mac/Lick years so it has to drive them nuts to kids still want to go to Iowa. I mean they offered Wieskamp before everyone.

Jacobson is similar to Kriener but is forced to play double the minutes which isn't a good thing IMO.

Who was the last legit Iowa guy they had before Jacobsen? They missed on Barnes and didn't wind up with McDermott for obvious reasons.

Appears to be Jared Homan in the early 00s?

Kinda funny because in the early 90s their Iowa guys (Hoiberg, Meyer) often rivaled or exceeded ours and they had significant hustles contributors like Klay Edwards.

That is exactly the case for me. Fran has had a good team finish strong once at Iowa, and even that team still shit their pants in the opening round of the BTT against a shitty Penn State team.

Pretty much every stat and website out there has Iowa as a legit Top 25 team, but I'm going to be counting down the magic numbers.

If they can somehow beat Michigan State, I will start jerking off random dudes in Sculpture Park.

Homan's last year was 04-05. Granted they've been clearly been better from '11 - current with Hoiberg and his transfers but notable that since the last guy to be a long term starter / average in double figures for ISU graduated that Iowa has had:

Greg Brunner
Jeff Horner
Adam Haluska (Ironically a transfer from ISU)
Matt Gatens
Eric May
Adam Woodbury
Peter Jok
Jarrod Uthoff
Nic Baer
bohannon
Pemsl
Weiskamp

Also pending: Kreiner, C. McCaffery and almost certainly P. McCaffery

* - We also had Zach McCage and Oglesy who had seasons starting / averaging over 7 ppg, and Gesell was quasi in state from "South Sioux City, NE"

So did this put a ceiling on some of our teams, probably yeah but its a lot easier to cheer for a team with local guys where it means something to their communities and the state than mercenary guys (even if they are sexier from a basketball perspective).

I've been drinking.
