**2018 Iowa Basketball Offseason Thread**

Fran is once again the biggest danger to himself. He is going to have 12 players on scholarship and only one of them an easy choice to sit on the bench.

Another good sign for this team will be if Baer plays less than 15 minutes per game. If that happens, Iowa should be pretty damn good. If he is getting more than that, woof.

We need to assemble an official chronology about how wildly wrong a few of these guys were, particularly Kakert who I think was the ringleader.

1) heard Cook was transferring to Missouri back in November
2) Cook had one foot out the door all year and was assuredly either transferring or turning pro.
3) [Cook states he is testing the waters. A wildly obvious and innocuous move]
4) Cook is for sure gone basically because nefarious handlers are involved.
5) Predicting Cook will leave after the banquet where he wouldn't talk to the locals.
6) Predicting Cook gone until the bitter end.

He borders on unprofessional. Such a petty little douchebag. Throws in sarcastic comment after sarcastic comment (the dunking thing again) while questioning his heart (willing to take a charge!!) and his leadership (he needs to demonstrate to his teammates he is all in!!).

I hope Fran makes it as hard as possible for Leistikow to do his job the next year or so.

Even though Cook has worked out with his Iowa teammates while wrapping up his spring semester, he still needs to demonstrate to them — from senior Nicholas Baer to junior Jordan bohannon to sophomore Luka Garza to freshman Joe Wieskamp — that he is all-in with the Hawkeyes as a junior.

Sure, it’s obvious the end goal is to play in the NBA.

And as was shown with the many NBA invites he received, there's intrigue out there surrounding Cook's pro potential. (By comparison, Isaiah Moss had no known workouts before returning to Iowa.)

But for the Hawkeyes to be very good in 2018-19 — and get back on track for their first NCAA Tournament in three years — it’ll be up to Cook to show he can be a player who is as willing to take a charge as throw down one of his signature, thunderous dunks.

Next year? Shit he already clearly leaked a big scoop to two National guys instead of the local beat. Fran pays attention.

His offense actually isn’t that good either. He uses a ton of possessions to get his stats.

Whenever a well liked player comes back who is the best player on the team, it's important to find negative in it.

Especially, when it's a player who was undoubtedly told by every NBA team that he needs to work on his rebounding and defense. And that right now his talent projects him to be a Reggie Evans type player, only he doesn't do any of the rebounding or defense that kept Reggie in the league.

The benefit of everything that happened hopefully extends to Fran. In getting feedback on Cook, hopefully the NBA teams gave Fran some feedback on defense, rebounding and adjusting his offense for what he has next year.

Iowa and basketball in general doesn't all have to try and become the Houston Rockets, but there is no doubt that Fran has to change what they did even on offense last year. Way too many shots in that offense are designed to be long 2 pointers.

Need to get the floor spread more and give Garza and Cook room to operate when they do get it. They also need to run a 2 man pick and roll with Cook to get him a lot more lobs.

Actually if that’s what cook really feels hes needs to get better at than I have no problem with him playing some small forward this year. If he can do that effectively it just makes the backcourt that much deeper. He has a ways to go but I have been impressed with his improvement of the bounce.
