I don't know if he would be a lock, but I do know everyone around him for the most part are huge Iowa fans and supporters or former players right down to his High School coach.

Forgot to add that Iowa is recruiting him pretty hard as well. Speraw mainly with Fran secondary. He has been up to games and they have watched him play multiple times.

I can also say to not read entirely too much into some of the offers that Iowa State has been throwing out. I think they are being intentionally aggressive with some of the younger Iowa kids because they have had a lot of trouble with building a solid High School base to their program.

Offers like this carry very little weight and think they are going with the strategy of being first team in with no downside. They did the same thing with Devonte Lane. My guess is they realize there is some young talent coming up on the east side of the state in the next few years and better to get offers in now ahead of others to at least give them a chance in recruiting. If they don't develop over the next couple years, they can always back off.

They also know it does put some pressure on Iowa. Now they have offered, it is a tricky situation for Iowa to be offering early as well because some of these kids are diehard Iowa fans and might want to commit on the spot.

Wieskamp is really good, but I'm not entirely convinced he will be a high major elite level type of player. That isn't to knock him, but e might be better off at UNI and the hard part is he is only a Freshman so who knows at this point.

Drew has put out so many speculative offers over the years that a Baylor offer is basically meaningless at this point.

One of these Baylor "offers" a few years ago caused a situation I'm sure was very embarrassing for the recruit. The kid publically committed after getting an offer from Drew, only to essentially be told it "wasn't for realsies."

still, funny to see cyfan crushed by isu offering dorky white kids like Iowa. always makes me chuckle considering I've been to about 5 straight isu games without seeing a single black fan.

You don't want to fill up a future class on guys who you are completely unsure on what they will become (not sure either will be top 100 guys, way too early to know). At this point, neither guy seems so indispensable that you whip out offers just to keep pace with ISU.

I think Speraw and Fran have a good enough relationship, contact and respect with their family that they don't need to rush the offer. If anything, I think they may appreciate them not doing that.

Wieskamp and his family live 35 - 40 minutes from their front door to Carver Hawkeye. He has 2 younger brothers still in High School and Middle School when he goes to college and a whole bunch of other friends and family that would love to drive 35 minutes and see every home game instead of almost 2 hours each way.

I think I said it earlier in this thread, but his dad was a stud. He was only 6'2'' and would dunk on people all the time. Played on a team that lost 3 games their Senior year and all 3 were to a Legend12 led City High team.

There is another guy from that team that has a kid the same age as Wieskamp that might end up being a heck of a player if he grows and develops. He is only about 5'9'' right now, but his dad is 6'7''. Kid is a good player with huge hands and feet, so expecting him to go through a major growth spurt in the next few years.

Though the Iowa Barnstomers fell just short of a championship in the 17U division on Sunday, losing to JC Hoops, they were able to take home a title belt in the 15U division. Based on the way he played on Saturday, it's a safe bet that 2018 shooting guard Joe Wieskamp had a lot to do with it.

It is still really early for the class of 2018, but Rivals.com hasn't seen many in that class who can shoot it with range or a basketball IQ like Wieskamp.

Standing 6-foot-4 with long arms, the product of Mousecatine (Iowa) High already has good size but he doesn't appear to be anywhere close to done growing. A knockdown shooter from deep, Wieskamp wields an aesthetically pleasing jumper that produces great results.

Though he's not a high flyer just yet, Wieskamp shows good mobility and when combined with shot fakes and changes of speed he can already get where he needs to go. He passes well, he is a good enough defender and he will stick his nose into a crowd for a loose ball or a rebound.

Wieskamp has been impressive enough that both Iowa andIowa State have already offered him scholarships. He's also heard from Northern Iowa, Creighton, Nebrantska and Wisconsin.

"I think they like that I shoot it pretty well," said Wieskamp. "I can get to the rim pretty well and I have good size for a shooting guard."
