Losing as a 3 seed to a 14 seed kind of takes the shine off of a season.
Coin flip came up tails, what can you do?

What sucks about that game, outside of the obvious, is that I have no idea how they blew that lead. They cut away in both the first and the second halves.

Watching the lead dwindle from the score bug in the top right corner was somewhat frustrating.

I don't know if it was the camera position or if my memory is kind of creating a narrative, but despite the shot being from a tough angle, it was pure the whole way. As soon as it was released you could track it going in.

I really liked Henderson, Brunner, Haluska, Thomas and ERock. That team had some athletes.

I'm electing to believe that Connor went from a guy that looked like he could break Morris' a-to record, to worthless because of his injuries. Same for Fredrick, although he was still serviceable, he seemed to shy away from shooting.

So if healthy, I take this year's squad.

Just watched highlights from both the BTT championship game against Ohio State and the NW State game. Thompson came in after Brunner picked up his 4th foul with 4:40 left. Assist, defensive rebound, 3 pointer all in about 2 minutes of action. It was the best 2 minutes of his career.

I forgot NW State made their comeback at the end. I always remembered it being earlier. Hansen was on the bench in warmups at the end so he clearly fouled out.

Who wins between that 05/06 team and this year's team?
That team was absolutely more athletic, and had some decent scoring options. I think this years team could more reliably score so I would probably take them. It makes me kind of wish Fran coached that team.

I was in college then and working retail. I saw part of the first half on my break, then watched a bunch of dejected looking people come into our store at the Coral Ridge Mall.

A special kind of hell.

They missed the first 3, they got the long rebound in the corner and the guy had to just shoot it. They were celebrating and Haluska sprinted down the floor and actually had a good look to win it because no one ran with him.

Then their coach applied for the job after Alford left which was hilarious. Brandon Hutton also ended his career there.

Yea, the 05/06 team was also better defensively but I don't know if they could have kept up with this year's team. Plus Garza would be nearly unstoppable by that team.

I think this team was definitely better. That team ended up a 3 seed but that was a surprise even on that day. They went into that weekend as a 5, 4 on the very high end. From mid-December on they had 4 weeks where they were unranked. Peaked at 18 in February, were 20th going to the BTT and ended at 15 after that.

They played great defense but most games were a slog. They went thru crazy droughts consistently. Didn’t shoot well overall and tired it over a bunch like all of his teams. They were 154 in offense that year which is nuts.

#1 on defense though. Hansen was an eraser.

Without looking it up, I'm trying to think of the bench guys.

Thomas, Thompson, Freeman maybe.

Thomas was about the perfect backup to Hansen, but pretty thin off the bench elsewhere.

Mike Henderson.

Horner and Frederick would be a good matchup. Henderson would shut bohannon down
Haluska and Weiskamp would be interesting
Bruner would have abused Connor on both ends
Garza would get Hansen in foul trouble immediately and would abuse Thomas. But 06 would have 10 fouls from legit players to throw against Luka.
20/21 bench would be huge

Thomas was 6th man of the year but the bench was very thin. It was really just him, Freeman and Thompson. Reed played very sparingly. Freeman was a poor man’s Toussaint as a freshman. Thompson had a couple good moments but was mainly bad. Somerville was the guy that team was missing.

Next year Henderson came off the bench.

Freeman
Haluska
Smith
Tate
Gorney

17-14 overall. 4th in the Big Ten. Didn’t make the NIT.

Cyrus Tate and Justin Johnson are my favorite completely forgettable players.

06 team was undefeated at home. 2nd by one game in the regular season. Won conference tournament.
More accomplished, but not as good.

Beat the first place team twice. Once during the season then in the tournament. But the Big Ten was down.

Were rated the #1 conference by RPI on Selection Sunday. (Saw the graphic CBS put up while watching highlights of the championship game against Ohio State)

The 2006 team was fairly seeded on resume, it just wasn’t shocking they fell early. They were extremely defense heavy and particularly reliant on shot blocking and rebounding, I think their TO% and FG% on non-blocks were average. And the offense was average at best.

There is zero chance he didn't try.
there’s no way...right?

or does that explain why he was total dogshit? Honestly I never considered that, but some me first dipshit trying to push an agenda while everyone else is locked in might explain some things. I mean he got benched for a half.

Arguing which of these two Iowa teams was better pretty much sums up the extreme mediocrity of the program. I'm sad for us.
stop it. We aren’t a fucking mediocre program to anyone except dipshits who DEMAND EXCELLENCE and want the players to TRY HARDER and Fran to GET SOME ATHLETES.

Do you say this because you believe it, or are you doing a bit?

There is a pretty big difference between wanting Fran fired and simply accepting reality. Post Raveling recruits, Iowa is mediocre as all get out.
