And also the comparison to the NBA that was made a few pages back is absurd. The NBA generates substantially more revenue and pays it out to fewer players.

And the actual revenue earned by the league is paying the players.

The system was built on Jay Bilas and Ivan and Jordan bohannon saying "the players are generating all of this money so they deserve some of it." That's an argument that at least made sense. But the answer to that argument is to not pay the players from the money they have helped create, but to expect outside sources to pay them while the profits created by the players continue to feed the schools.

It's nonsensical.

I never understand this. Why do so many athletes from college to pros feel the need to constantly tell is it’s not about the money? Of course it is, and there isn’t anything wrong with that. Making a career move based on pay is completely normal and acceptable behavior. I don’t get the need for athletes to downplay it.

because the reason there is money to be made off a game is because people like the game and competition aspects to it. people care about teams and schools because of the meaning we assign to them, even if they’re myths. even if we know that it’s all bullshit, the illusion is what keeps people interested

It’s in a very dumb place right now, no denying that. It took me longer to get into CBB this year than any year in a long time. There are still a lot of the same elements I really like, especially compared to other entertainment options in the winter. Hopefully the sensible adjustments to the system aren’t too far away.

It helps that the guys we lost are guys that needed to leave and I’ll remain stupidly optimistic that we get fortunate with the players we add.

I hope they can make adjustments, but it seems to be getting much worse and not better. The only thing I think that can fix it is separation from the NCAA and make it into a minor league. Which also fucking sucks.
