As noted, dont think they will be good either. But probably no worse than last year. Good deal of addition by subtraction with pmac and krikke. Krikke is likely the worst defensive player i have ever seen play significant minutes for iowa. And yes i understand the implications of that statement.

If fartman comes back i think we are a bubble team. Add a legit backup big and barring injury we are solidly in, might even advance to the round of 32.

Heres my guess as of today:

Thelwell / Harding
Dix / committee
Lil fart / Tadjo
Ladji / Koch
Freeman / committee

I actually kind of like that lineup. They wont be good but may be better than last year sheerly through not playing pmac and krikke. Losing peyton hurts but he was a huge liability on d too. Him and krikke at same time was disastrous. He tried hard but has concrete feet. The team will be much better defensively. Fran teams will always find a way to be solid offensively. I think we will be surprised by lil fart. Hes a better defender than his bro. Longer arms, and its not like he can possibly be slower laterally. He will emerge offensively similar to how dix did last year.

Now, if dix leaves all bets are off. Otherwise, add a bruiser big man and i actually like the team.

Sg: Dix - 29 mpg; Thellwell 5 mpg; lil Fart - 4 mpg; hutchison - 1 mpg

Kingsbury is presently a 100% career 3pt shooter. If he can continue that pace, I would give him some minutes.

First note that he averaged 3.5 mpg LAST year. 3.9 the year before. Mpg does not include DNPs.

Second, without additional transfers, and without peyton sandfart, iowa is extremely thin at forward and very young. I dont think its far fetched at all that kingsbury is actually forced to play. As noted multiple times this will be an objectively bad team.

Now, if sandfart comes back, and if a forward transfers in, the model will of course shift more in line with kingsbury's historic minutes played.

That would make it a pretty successful Portal season.

I don't want to pretend I knew who the fuck Thelwell or Cross were prior to them showing interesting, but they seem like they both fill needs.

You won't find any portal ranking that has Thelwell over Perkins, but Iowa was limited by having Perkins play point. Thelwell is a true pg, and just judging by the Illinois game, he can handle the physicality that the officials allow.

Replacing Pat and Krikke with a guy who averaged 8 rebounds a game, regardless of level, is an upgrade.
