No. Only Saban can do this. No one else is worth $7M.

I don’t know there answer. I’m generally pretty cynical when a Wooden or Phil Jackson is mentioned as the GOAT. I’m like, duh, they had the best of the best of the best players. But I don’t know how else to measure it unless we’re being completely subjective.

I understand what you’re trying to say but your point is coming across poorly. How does one measure “best coach” if not with wins and championships?

Yes, the “best” coaches also tend to have the best players. Where does the credit end for the players and start for the coach of the team….or vice versa.
You start with the togetherness metric, then consider how many games you would have won if only certain things happened and other things didn't. Actual wins and championships are further down the list, really.

I don’t think the guy who tolerated the worst offense in football for 3 straight years is winning 6 National Titles.

I also doubt Saban is/was the only guy cheating his ass off.
You think Spencer Petras is playing QB at Alabama? You might want to ask yourself how did KF do with Brad Banks, Drew Tate, or CJ Bethard? Now add 5 star Wide Receivers

Saban is great coach, I'm not trying to say otherwise. But you do have to look at the talent he's had when he's been successful compared to results with mid talent.

Kinda like Brock Purdy is MVP of the NFL or the next Joe Montana....

What the fuck are you laughing at Thom...
The idea that Kirk, who has had the worst skill position talent in the division is just going to magically have 5 star receivers everywhere.

I get that Saban isn’t necessarily the greatest coach ever, and Alabama has resources to talent that Iowa doesn’t have. Kirk is a great coach but there is some serious extrapolation going on here.

There are dozens of coaches that would have gotten the same results as Saban. He’s a great coach that doesn’t mean he’s the only one worth $7M like Doug said.

Flip him and KF and the results at the respective schools would be the same.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL

I thought you were trolling. But you’re actually serious with this right now?!?!

Well then. Not giving Saban credit for recruiting is an interesting tactic.

I am talking about Kirk being at Alabama- he more than likely has better talent than he's had the last 3 years for sure, and most of his years at Iowa.

Saban isn’t the coaching god y’all make him out to be. Great coach, yes.
And for fucks sake if you don’t realize how much easier it is to recruit to Alabama and LSU.

I’m pissed.
whew. Thanks for clearing up a coach with an .800 winning percentage is great. I was beginning to doubt that based on posts.

This is so dumb I can't get past it. I'm irrationally angry at this stupid troll that I'm taking the bait.

Here's Alabama head coaches sorted by win percentage.

Nick Saban has a third of Alabama's 18 national titles. They won 1 in the 30 years prior to his arrival. This is the first time Alabama hasn't held a number 1 AP ranking in a season since 2007, his first year there. He has coached 45 All-Americans and 4 Heisman winners just at Alabama. He succeeded Gerry DiNardo at LSU, who had a .570 winning percentage. Before that was Curly Hallman, who won less than 40% of his games. He left LSU with a .750 winning percentage. LSU was an average program when he took over and built the foundation.

I hate you.

Don’t forget winning the offseason.
