The offense is predicated on getting the defense off balance with ball screens. Once you gain the advantage the defense scrambles and it’s a matter of getting the best shot available at that point.

It’s all about reads and counters. It’s fun to watch and extremely hard to guard.

I’m really looking forward to the game on Dec 11 because of this. ISU’s defense is predicated on getting the offense uncomfortable and in a scramble and recovering quickly. Forced Mississippi State into their most turnovers in program history. And that’s a ream coached by Jans that has known Otzelberger forever, and I expected to have a better answer on offense.

If Stirtz can control the game against Lipsey/Toure like he has been these first few games (and last year I guess) Iowa could get quite a few open looks. If they can rattle him or (more likely) the secondary ball handler, it could get lopsided fast.

Will know a lot more about ISU by then as they still have games against St John’s/Creighton/another top tier team in Vegas and at Purdue before the Iowa game. And Iowa has three solid games too. I can’t think of another year when both Iowa and ISU come into the CyHawk game as battle tested. Should be good.

Iowa uses Stirtz off the ball quite a bit, and he brings the ball up maybe half the time. Will be interesting if that changes against a team with pressure defense.

Iowa got to 67 points and the crowd started going nuts. Banks was on the floor and started doing the 6-7 thing to the crowd egging them on while iowa was inbounding the ball. Clearly lost focus. Chicago state presses though, and when the ball came to Banks he fucking spazzed out and threw it directly to a chicago state defender for an easy layup. However howard or somebody fouled the guy on the layup and Banks swooped in for a violent tomahawk goal tend off the backboard for an and 1 for csu. Banks was immediately benched the rest of the game.

I was cracking up laughing. Iowa was up 35 or so at the time. Good fun.
