It was good they were pressuring the punter a bit so he had to worry more about getting it off and less about direction.

He’s averaging 28.3 yards a return this year which is crazy. Looks like the college record is 28.5. Dwight was incredible and he averaged 19 yards his last two years.

Finish the regular season ranked 15th in SP+. 48th on offense, 7th on defense, 25th in special teams.

There are fewer advanced stats that far back but the 2001 team also had dumb luck in close games and narrowly missed a dramatic upset but were at least top 15 in Sagarin predictor IIRC

That’s undefeated as a starting Iowa quarterback Jackson Stratton

The Michigan game that year was brutal. The Marquis Walker catch, Kirk sticking with McCann over Banks, McCann missing an open Chris Oliver at the end. The Iowa State game that was moved because of 9/11, don’t remember if the game was tied or Iowa was down 3 when Grant Steen intercepted a pass in the 4th quarter then fumbled it back to Iowa State. Iowa never got the ball back. Finally broke through against Texas Tech.

Matt Stockdale got hurt and Michigan went at Ejiasi seemingly every play after that. Kaeding also fumbled a snap on a punt from the end zone that was either recovered or just had it blocked for a TD right before halftime. I think that was the end of Kaeding and Bradley splitting punts.

Chris Williams made the comment that “Rogers won his introductory press conference.” I watched it and then for shits and giggles watched KFs intro PC from 27 years ago. My god, that’s a great listen and makes you really appreciate what Iowa has with KF. I’m not sure that Kirk was confident that he would win at Iowa, but you can tell that he was completely comfortable being himself (which is probably where some of his stubbornness comes from). He also came across really well and relatable to Iowans.

It’s a surreal watch, it’s kind of insane how much everything about college football has changed and gotten so massive. Bowlsby mentioned that they were still working on his compensation/contract. That would never happen today.

Feel like I’ve heard this about every major hire, at least with local FB/CBB. Trying to imagine how a coach would lose the presser.

Like even with Drake MBB hired Ray Giacoletti, a terrible hire that I hated at the time, I remember watching his first PC and thinking that maybe I was wrong to hate the hire.

It’s still crazy to me that in the early 2000s not all games were even televised. How did it take so long for them to realize all the money they were leaving on the table?

Remember that the technology was different and more expensive to produce, we didn't have HD at that point, and there weren't even enough channels to make it happen.

BTN, FS1, FS2, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNU and more didn't even exist yet.

And yet, somehow all Iowa basketball games were televised 30 years ago whereas now 20% of them aren't.
