The CFP rankings don’t really matter either. Iowa isn’t getting left out at 10-2 and isn’t getting in at 9-3.

Let this be a coin flip Kirk special please. I think our offensive line and defensive line can give them some problems.

You’re the one saying Tuesday is some transition point.
I mean, it literally is a transition point from the AP/Coaches to the CFP poll that is universally used for the rankings for the rest of the regular season. That was the main point.

You are also wrong that "the CFP rankings don't really matter either". Lol, of course they do. It is how the seeding works out, so it matters to get high enough up as soon as possible so that if you do win out and go 10-2 that you have a shot at hosting a game at Kinnick. Placement on Tuesday in the mid-20's vs. 17 could be huge. Especially now that it appears Nebrantska will no longer be considered a good win by the end of the year. Get as high up as possible now so that if you beat Oregon & USC it vaults you as high as possible as you won't take any leap in the last 2 games of the season.

I hope this clears up any confusion you may have had, and your overall just being flat out wrong.

- the committee redoes the rankings every week and the weekly show just exists for ESPN
- the committee just makes up whatever criteria they want at the end. a team once dropped 3 spots after a 55-3 win, which was hilarious because it was Iowa State but also made no fucking sense
- anything past spot #15 is just used to justify how they ranked other teams. like if they want to put Indiana #1 they will then put Iowa ahead of Texas to justify Indiana's multiple top 20 wins or whatever

You're conflating two different things and two different eras along with a touch of conspiracy theory. The team that dropped 3 spots after a 55-3 win was a completely different format over a decade ago.

It doesn't make what you said any less wrong. If Iowa can start off ranked in the teens rather than the 20's, it's a huge advantage right off the bat and absolutely matters.

Assuming they win out in this scenario, it can be the difference between #8 vs. #9. That alone is just such a gigantic swing of events it's hilarious that anyone would try to dismiss it. It's the difference between a late afternoon or night game in Kinnick in mid-December or having to get on a plane and travel out to a place like Lubbock, Texas or Provo, Utah or Oxford, Mississippi.

Of course it matters.

It matters even more given #1 and #2 are very unlikely to change the rest of the year. Both can/should go undefeated and play in the Big Ten Championship game and the loser very well might remain at #2 depending on the score. At worse they drop no further than #4 which also can help push a team like Iowa over the edge into that coveted #8 or better slot.

I think TCU beat Iowa State 55-3 and the committee was so impressed they moved them down 3 spots.

Iowa/USC is a 230 kick, on either CBS or BTN.

Edit SCOOPED.

Has to be CBS, they aren't going to put fucking Penn State vs. Michigan State on CBS. If it is CBS' pick that is.

If Iowa/USC is on CBS, it means USC/UCLA has to be on BTN. That’s the issue.

Iowa still needs a game on BTN also. Feels like the Michigan State game plus USC/UCLA is the obvious choice on that one.

I don’t see the Big Ten getting only 3 teams to the CFP. Texas Tech isn’t losing again, so the Big 12 gets 1. The ACC is dogshit and not getting 2 teams again. If the Hawks can take care of business the rest of the way, there is a glimmer of hope a 4th place Big Ten team at 9-3 team can make the playoffs.

Not a chance in hell. There is only one team in the CFP rankings with 3 losses. You can rest assured that even if a 3 loss team gets in, it won't be Iowa. Get that out of your system.

Alabama could probably have 4 losses and ESPN would just have Pat McAfee suck off the entire committee so they could get in
