Iowa was fairly good back then. The Lute years allowed the development of the statewide network. One year it was the highest rated program in Iowa. Now no one cares.

1961- @USC (first game watch- 3rd grade), Minnesota
1965- Oregon State, possibly Michigan State
1969- Michigan State
1971- Penn State (probably a regional)
1977- Iowa State
1978- Iowa State (Maybe. Just regional if it was), Purdue (because of Mark Hermann)
1981- Minnesota, @ Wisconsin, Rose Bowl (duh)

Play design and calling has a TON to do with it. Brian smart. Brian make running back run at line. Brian don't care 11 defenders in box. Brian like pussy quarterbacks.

How quickly we forget Brett Greenwood, who went from "heir to Adam Shada" in 2007 to "wtf dude makes plays" in 2010.

Quite the position for Iowa:

Rimington, Rimington for the last two.
Daniels- NFL
Blythe- NFL
J Ferentz- 3-year starter, NFL
Eubanks- All-Big 10 as senior
Bruggeman- Would have been a 3-year starter from '06-'08, but tore up his knee in first start and missed '07. Great player in '08
Brian- Also would have been 3-year starter. Played RG as a junior and went back to center in '05 for the highest ypg offense of KF era
Nelson- AA, 2nd round pick
Wiegmann- 30-40 year pro career
Devlin- 3-year starter, 7 year pro
Bill Anderson- 3-year starter
Sindlinger- 3-year starter who doubled as a two-time AA heavyweight wrestler
Joel Hilgenberg- A very late (June?) 190 pound signee in 1980. Ten year pro
Jay Hilgenberg- Solid 3-star in 1977. 13 year pro, two-time all-pro, 7 time Pro Bowler
Jim Hilgenberg- was pretty good but was maybe 210-15 pounds
Al Casady (or someone)- Anchored lines in '68 and '69 for teams that averaged 440 and 424 in total offense
Bill Van Buren- 1961 All-American
