Some of this shit is getting out of hand now. Damn. You can't even utter Vandy in the same sentence as Christensen, he's fucking lightyears better than that turd. Vandy started that Minnesota game lights out, 7/7 or 8/8 and he's shown flashes of brilliance in the past that Christensen never even sniffed. Anyone ever remember Christensen stringing that many completions together in a row? Hell, I don't remember him stringing even 3 or 4 in a row together, to be honest.
I want to say JC started this game at least 10/10.

Vandy singlehandedly won that Pitt game for us last year while throwing for 400 yards, could these other turds you guys are referencing ever do something like that?

This is not to say that he hasn't regressed this year but a lot of that probably has to do with a new OC and scheme. I suspect he'll settle into the new system more as the season wears on. If he doesn't, then you can start having a discussion about him being a terrible quarterback but that still won't justify putting him anywhere close to the category that Christensen is in.

I like JVB much better than Stanzi. Wish he'd have started last year.
.
I think the regression in both Stanzi and Vandenberg is directly attributable to Ferentz's conservative nature. The more time they spend in the system, the more they're exposed to his risk aversion and desire to avoid the turnover above all else. Their ability to read and react disappears, along with the desire to take the necessary chances to make plays. 3 and outs are no longer viewed as a failure as long as the ball was protected and field position preserved. They've done their job. They've kept it rolling.

Why do people keep saying that Stanzi got worse in his time at Iowa? Anyone who thinks he wasn't light years better his Senior year, than he was as a sophomore or junior, is retarded or wasn't watching the games. Stanzi, and the Iowa offense, was better his Senior year.

He wasn't clutch! He just won football games!

I'd guess there is a 99% overlap with people who think Drew Tate was better as a sophomore than as a junior.

There is some truth to the charge that he and it were, while much better on the whole, agonizingly bad at the end of close games...particularly Arizona and Wisconsin.

i dont think hes saying that stanzi got worse, as that clearly isnt the case as deomonstrated by his stats, but i think parts of his game regressed such as his ability to use his legs to extend the play and his willingness to take some risks and let his WR's make plays for him.

in the iowa system, sure and steady QB play can typically provide success. but in 2010, due to some defense struggles, we also needed a QB that could bust out of that mold at times and make things happen, and ricky definitely regressed in that department his last year.

He wasn't just checking down to safe plays. His Y/A went up from 8.0 to 8.7 his senior year.

Then that was a stupid point. It is a relevant stat. If you have reasons that you think it might not be, prove it yourself dickweed.

I recall DJK and McNutt getting about 100 YAC in the Indiana game on back to back plays. Ricky was so clutch in that game!

The stats don't tell the full story here. Anyone who watched the games in 2009 and 2010 could tell that Ricky was trying to turn into more of a game manager. And judging from his stats, he did a decent job of it too. The problem was that in doing so, he forgot how to take risks and make plays when he needed to.

The 2 minute offense that year was god fucking awful, especially when you consider the weapons he had.

Don't forget Moeaki against Michigan and Georgia Tech. Stanzi completed a couple 12 yard curls and Moeaki ran forever.

This is the worst thread the internet has ever seen.
This season has been a rough one so excuse me for finding a little bit of comfort by harkening back to years past when we've sucked and disappointed almost as much.

Is "managing the games" another way of saying "threw 9 less interceptions and 8 more TDs"?

Maybe it means stopped throwing easy interceptions returned for touchdowns on short outs? Everyone remembers those passes, right?

At times? Sure. But not to the point where it made him a worse qb or a 'game manager.'

it clearly made him a worse QB at times

whether 2009 ricky would have already played us out of the game...who knows

Worse QB at times does not =/= worse qb, as implied below (after someone expressed desire to have Vberg over Stanzi):

Stanzi did not regress his senior year. There were things he might have done slightly worse at times, but find me a single quarterback who has improved in every statistical category as well as in the non-quantifiable categories fans love (CLUTCH!!1!) and I'll go home.

Rick Stanzi improved overall on every major statistical category from 2009-2010. The first 8 games of '10 he was playing out of his mind. Even at AZ, he had 3 TDs. The last 5 regular season games in 2010, he regressed every week. Pucker pucker, pucker.

Looking at game by game stats, you could even argue that Stanzi had a better year in 2008 than he did in 2009.

This is phenomenally stupid. Stanzi was sooooooo much better his senior year. Why can't some people take external factors into account when judging a QB? Jfc.

That's the point, his external factors disappeared.

I don't care about the other stats. In 2009, Stanzi was undefeated. 2009 Stanzi > 2010 Stanzi.
