Iowa State having a good crowd for this was the most predictable thing ever. They do actually travel well, Ireland is the most accessible and cheapest American trip to Europe, a bunch of Iowans claim Irish heritage anyway, and there was a long time to prep/save as opposed to a bowl or tournament.
