It would, however, be nice to have someone with some experience to show they know WTF they are doing in the proposed role

I will say, can we stop with the OMG they've never called plays!! thing?

It's a simple sport filled with and coached by mouth breathing retards. As has been pointed out a billion times, a 12 year old that plays Madden can call plays well enough to win at Iowa. I'm sure LeVar could figure it out.
No. There are plenty of successful playcallers at a lower level. Get one of those if you can’t do better. Nobody associated with the Iowa Hawkeyes the last 5 years should be a candidate for our OC gig

LeVar might turn out to be solid.

He's not Bridawg. That's enough for now.

This. There are numerous options available, most of which Iowa has the means to hire. And yet we're once again going to go with someone not qualified.

This is really all setting up perfectly for Kirk. He can now say he went after the big name hire everyone wanted him to get (Chryst) but was turned down. The next best candidate up was LeVar, who happens to be extremely well liked and a young black coach that has been seen as innovative.

Not a single media member will be able to seriously question him on this and he gets to keep the hire in house.

Except there is no way LeVar is the next best candidate. There are plenty of legitimate questions that could be asked.

Oh, so now a young well respected black coach isn't good enough for the job??

LeVar completely revamped the way our special teams plays, from formations, shifts, recruiting and playcalling.

It probably isn’t a great career move for him though.

If this shit happens its only slightly better than the Gift getting the job. At this point it's beyond lazy, it's gross negligence.
I doubt it happens, but this would be much worse than Budmayr. This would be making Iowa's special teams worse. Budmayr would be an awful hire, but he would probably be better than Brian.

Correct, a coach with no playcalling experience isn’t good enough. There are young black OCs that exist. Get one of those if you value young and black.

Which is exactly what he wanted all along

And further, it’d be absolute poison for Lavar’s career, just the same as it was for Brian.
I don't think this is the case. He convinced them to do that swinging gate shit or whatever it was. I think he has the balls to do what he wants and actually has a creative mind.

I still don't know how the center is an eligible receiver on that one play. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

Is that what Roy is getting at? I think a lot of us said that from the start, can't see why Kirk doesn't give LeVar Woods a shot at it. He's been exceptional as a ST coach, came up with some innovative plays and certainly won't be worse than Brian. Not to mention he's a young african-american coach.
A guy with no OC experience, and three years coaching an offensive position. I understand he’s been good in the roles he’s been coaching, but that move does not inspire a lot of confidence, considering we just had a guy with no OC experience and he was a fucking disaster.

it may work out and also carries pretty significant risk in my opinion

I really don’t want to hate LeVar but I’ll have to if he’s the OC. The way God made it.

Maybe Ladell Betts can get an interview while we’re at it? He at least played on offense.

This entire thing is stupid. The ineptitude is beyond comprehension.

Reeks of more Fort Kinnick bullshit, which is the reason IOWA is in this position right now

For more money, lower taxes, less crime, and more affordable housing? Why not?
1. Washington does not have an income tax.
2. The HC of a I am a giant douche school doesn't have to worry about affordable housing.
3. Crime is local. There's zero crime where this guy was living.

Of course, I wouldn't expect you to know these things because you don't deal with wealth.

I can easily see the rationale for not including bowl results in this; agree with it or not.

But Gary is still a completely incompetent moron. Both things can be true at the same time
it’s the one-sided nature of the bowl result’s inclusion that was prototypical Garta

Biggest issue with the LeVar hire...who is going to coach the QBs? LeVar? Schematically, I think he will be an improvement over Brian. His concepts on Special Teams and ability to adapt/evolve were better than anything Brian dialed up on offense. But can he coach QBs?
Not sure. I do know that when the kicker sucked, he wasn't afraid to pull him and try someone else. That alone is a step up.

I want to forever look upon LeVar fondly and not hate him with a burning passion when Iowa passes for 57 yards and 2 INT with 2 Bacon fumbles

Alabama stealing Head Coaches from South Alabama and Buffalo to be CO DCs and we’re here talking about LeVar as our OC. What the fuck?!
