I think promise of a future payoff is the only way you get a talented OC to take over the smoldering dumpster fire that is the Iowa offense, I'm not saying make it formal, but I'm not sure how else you get anyone with talent to sign up for that job.

That's not the way the Grub's statement sounds to me, why not announce you're going to Bama with DeBoer if that were the case? He stated he wasn't coming back.

We're getting Joe Philbin, so I'm not hopeful at all, but a competent steward of the program would push all in on Grubb, tell him he can pick his QB/WR coaches and run the offense as he wants, and if successful be setup for a coach in waiting scenario when Kirk retires.
I thought Grubb's statement was weird as well and seemed like he typed it after drinking all day. He didn't mention DeBoer at all and mentioned Chris Peterson and some woman at Washington as his mentors.

With that said, given the ESPN guy that broke the Saban story reported it and that is what is on the front page of ESPN, I'm going with that for now.

Also, the whole money thing becomes an issue. You're going to have to give Grubb at least $2m per year to get him as your OC and Iowa has never paid more than $900k. You also are going to have to then give Phil Parker a raise to beat it, so just to get Grubb you are talking about another nearly $2m more per year for OC/DC than you have ever paid before. Somewhere around $4m-$5m per year just for your OC/DC and Kirk already makes $7m+. That is upwards of $12m per year for your top 3 positions.

Then factor in you have to give big raises to Seth Wallace and LeVar Woods along with finding a competent WR coach you will have to pay more.

I would do it and the money shouldn't matter, but it's Iowa and sometimes our people tend to be cheap. I don't think they are going to snap their fingers and suddenly pay $3m-$4m more per year than they already had budgeted.

Anyways, my guess is this all ends with Phil Parker getting a nice $250k bump in salary along with Wallace/Woods getting another $150k each or something like that.

The OC will get about what Brian was getting at $800k-$950k. The WR coach will be someone young and on the cheap.

Meanwhile, Kirk and Philbin are just waiting for some bureaucratic university committee to finish their approval process so they can formally announce what they’ve both known for weeks.

Parker was already getting a raise. Seth was already getting a huge raise and additional responsibilities.

as previously mentioned, would not surprise me to see LaVar land elsewhere.

I totally forgot that Dannen was at Washington, and I don’t think he likes Pollard so that would be hilarious to see him hire Campbell. Somehow iowa took all of the flak for backing out of the basketball series when iowa State wanted out even more because they couldn’t beat UNI.

Dannen thinks Pollard is a huge douche and a giant dork.

Just like everyone here.

Tuesday was suggested previously as a likely date since that’s when they meet with the team the first time after break.
Didn’t HaLo already report that Chryst turned the job down?

WE WILL suck each other's dicks.

It will be beautiful. Books will be written about it.

I know I shouldn't allow myself to be, but I am very excited.
You boys are gonna stand up 69 each other. My guess is you are standing and Doug is upside down clinging to the ponytail.

I know Iowa operates differently from everyone else and that is part of the reason for success, but it is fascinating watching other P2 schools lose a coach and then manage to select a new coach and hire a majority of the staff within days while Iowa still hasn't hired a OC with going on 80 days notice.

Are we just going to meet up at the sculpture park for the hell of it or not? I can probably work up some heated tents

Jason Candle. The Toledo head coach. Makes 900K. I bet 1.3 gets him to go be a power 2 OC
