Dumb yes, but probably somewhat correct. I wouldn't be surprised if the limit is less than 1.9 just because of optics or loyalty or whatever KF wants to call it. My first thought was 1.75.

That said, big LOL at "only for a stud." I mean yeah I guess I don't want them to pay Budweisermeyer 1.9 to be OC but I don't want them to pay him anything for that role because he shouldn't be the OC. Whoever they get I don't gaf what they pay them because it's not my money. Losing out on a guy you want because you're pinching pennies is really stupid.

I'm sure Phil had anyone and everyone that had an opening after him. $1.9m for the best DC in college football and the only reason that Iowa is remotely what they are is fair market rate, if not a bit under.
Phil could probably get jobs that aren't even open at this point. There has to be a decent number of HCs that are okay with their DC, but would flip in a heartbeat if Phil called them up.

But for real - I don't think the co-HC thing means shit to a prospective OC. It's about giving Wallace a raise and as much of a title change as you can to keep him around.
The Minnesota DC job was Wallace’s if he wanted it. I’m sure there have been other opportunities for him over the past year or two that he has turned down.

bud could pay us $1.9mm to be OC and I would still be pissed.

This whole thread is pretty great. It says we have another $2M budgeted for an OC and WR coach. Also shows Kirk and his reps pulled a fast one on Barta about assistant coach raises.

Nothing for LW doesn't add up to anything beyond a slap in the face. Maybe his STs were too successful for Kirk's liking.
He's getting a 10% raise. So are the rest of the assistants. It's not nothing.

$1.3-1.5 million for an OC should be fine.

I don't think this is a fast one at all. The TV money is going up dramatically over the next 2-3 years, this is not difficult to fit in the budget.

LeVar as OC is intriguing.
Is that what Roy is getting at? I think a lot of us said that from the start, can't see why Kirk doesn't give LeVar Woods a shot at it. He's been exceptional as a ST coach, came up with some innovative plays and certainly won't be worse than Brian. Not to mention he's a young african-american coach.

I am very much NOT intrigued by that prospect.

Fucking A. Talk about someone who’d be under the thumb.
With all that said, this right here though. He's beholden to Kirk.

And further, it’d be absolute poison for Lavar’s career, just the same as it was for Brian.

The fast one is that the raise is determined by the College Football Playoff Rankings OR the AP/Coaches Poll. Basically that losing the bowl game doesn’t hurt the raise because the CFP Rankings are only done prior to the Bowls. So, the coaches got raises as the 17th ranked team this year.

I get it, i'm just not convinced that Barta didn't realize it.

I wonder who it was that finally grew some ballz and told Brian to wear Iowa gear on the sidelines for the bowl game.

I'm still grasping to the fact that Brian is just flat out inept as an OC. Historically stupid. The offense will never be better than top 60ish with Kirk.
Any of us would take top 60. Shuffling the deck chairs ain’t gonna get us there.

And someone who has never called offensive plays and any on the job learning would have been under Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz. No.

There is no reason to think he’d be good at this. Do some work and go find someone with experience.

It's the most Kirk move ever. It's happening.

Biggest issue with the LeVar hire...who is going to coach the QBs? LeVar? Schematically, I think he will be an improvement over Brian. His concepts on Special Teams and ability to adapt/evolve were better than anything Brian dialed up on offense. But can he coach QBs?

Not good. Still have all the same issues. Someone who's an apostle to Kirk and incapable of telling him to go fly a kite. All he's experienced is shitty offenses.

Are there coaches out there who handle both QBs and WRs? I’m legitimately asking because I’m not aware.

Lol, you know The Gift is going to essentially be the QB coach, right?

Well I don't think we've had anyone coaching QBs for the last 5 years so he can't be any worse

I will say, can we stop with the OMG they've never called plays!! thing?

It's a simple sport filled with and coached by mouth breathing retards. As has been pointed out a billion times, a 12 year old that plays Madden can call plays well enough to win at Iowa. I'm sure LeVar could figure it out.
