Iowa reporters have been pretty fucking awful during this entire ordeal. Zero useful information unearthed, at least that they are willing to share/publish.
It’s the same group that talked about that QB grifter and Drew Tate after O’Keefe retired. Eickholt said he’d like to see Marvin McNutt involved when reporting about Copeland getting fired. There can’t be a less informed group of “insiders” regarding coaching searches than the Iowa beat guys.

Who is left that they are still unable to release because they are still playing....

Andy Reid
Kyle Shanahan
Ben Johnson, who will be deciding between IOWA OC and NFL Head Jobs.
Ravens OC Todd Monken?
Klint Kubiak.

Drew Tate would have been 1,000 times better as OC and qb coach than Brian, the short snapper. Altho Brian rarely spilled Belicheks coffee and transformed Gronk into an all pro.

Your obsession with Tate is weird.

This is not the resume you want Kirk looking for in an OC

that resume doesn’t seem bad for the first few years in coaching

but the main reason to mention Tate is him being an alumnus in coaching, it’s not really reporting when the beat guys mention him, they’re just picking out names anyone could name

first of all, Im not obsessed with him or anyone else.

2nd of all job hopping often as a young coach is pretty normal for those not born into their positions.
Going from that resume to an OC of a P2 team is about as close to nepotism as you can get. I liked watching Tate play football too, he is unqualified to get the Iowa OC job.

I'm ribbing you, dude.

Also, you keep referencing the wrong player. Please czech your spreadsheet.
you are right, it was Sleeper. My buddys kid wanted to be a Hawk and the last preferred walkon spot came down to him or Sleeper.(buddies kid was all state LB)

Reese Morgan wanted my buddys kid but Kirk went with Sleeper because he had played secondary.

Oh, what could have been.

Any discussion of a former Iowa player or coach in the OC role is lazy and myopic. There is a whole country full of qualified people and the chances that the most qualified candidate use to play QB or whatever at Iowa is close to zero. It’s just an exercise showing you can name former Hawkeyes. So what.

TBH, any WR coach that has close ties to the Iowa program is immediately suspect to me.

so almost as close to zero as the most qualified candidate grew up in Kirk's house?

Paul Chryst is actually good at offense. Why in the hell would he go to Iowa? As an offensive coordinator? Head coach, mmm.

He's living the dream in Austin.
He's an analyst at Texas making 100k. Calm down.

Iowa had interest in talking to Tommy Rees… He told them thanks but no thanks… And sounds like he’s instead going to take a job as the tight end coach for the Browns

Kirk clearly likes to hire his former players given the number on his current staff. It’s not a great strategy but is clearly something Kirk has a strong track record.

Just fucking promote LaVar at this point and end it. It isn’t a splash hire, but we’ll all be fine with it.
