Does it really fucking matter at this point? They will hire some guy, reporters will write stupid stories about all the change and excitement over the summer, and then if we are really really lucky there might be improvement that we actually see… maybe… in that first game.

Or course I’ll still check this damn thread ten times a day thinking there might be an update. Fucking hell.

They were never going to hit a home run. We just need competency and someone who doesn’t ruin recruiting due to three years of poor on field performance.

Believe me, I get the skepticism

Here is my pie in the sky hope. Kirk hires an OC that inspires a decent amount of momentum in the portal and in recruiting to maintain a solid 9 or 10 win streak for 2-3 years before he rides off in to the sunset.

This. The best hope is they get a competent OC who can put together an offense that can at least move the ball consistently. The addition of Proctor should mean the OL is at least decent. Then, the hope is Cade can get and stay healthy as well as Lachey. If those things happen, the offense should be a significant improvement from last year. Ideally, Deacon leaves and they get another QB from the portal to be the backup.

Deacon can stay and battle for 3rd string with Marco. The incoming freshman QB is not a QB.

The year he was OC at Texas Tech in 2018 his starting QB from about half the games was true freshman Alan Bowman, who threw for 20 TDs.
In 2024, Oklahoma State's starting QB will be 7th year senior, Alan Bowman.
And in between there, in 2021 Bowman was beaten out by soph Cade McNamara as the starting QB at Michigan. (with leading receiver junior, Erik All)

What a weird (long) career.

The OC search being frustratingly slow, doesn't mean the quality of hire is less important. The likelihood of a great hire seems diminished, but Iowa can still end up with a real life OC, and that is a big step up.

Why is this the only school where a great athlete can’t be a qb? Maybe that’s exactly what we need. Most of our QBs suck at throwing and are also not athletic. Sucks at throwing but athletic should be a big step up.

He was not good as a high school QB.

Id just prefer to get a QB that can actually throw, and any athletic ability would be an added bonus
