I mean, you’re clearly just spitballin hypotheticals. Your mind isn’t made up at all, just asking questions.

ok, show your work and explain why I’m wrong. I laid out why I feel this way. Go ahead and disagree with an argument other than LOL. I’m a pretty reasonable person.

Right, the year Johns was his OC was the worst of the first five. They improved when Johns left and he took over play calling. Yes it’s the MAC where he also was coaching in the MAC with MAC players.

I don’t think he’d be an amazing hire for this overall process but the idea that he’s the puppet and Johns is a rockstar is crazy. I’d prefer Johns because of his varied stops but they’re more similar than not and they likely pitched similar visions.
You may end up being right. Lester might end up being fine. But I can’t get pass that resume. Hired from D-3 by Scott Shafer and ends up getting the OC job by default. Hired by Darrel Hazel to be a QB coach for a bad Purdue team. Apparently heading to Troy before we got involved. It’s less about a comparison with johns and more that I think it’s a bad hire.

Kirk was more than content to bring Brian back in 2024. A comfortable hire trumps hiring with the intention of serious offensive improvement.
Yes. In order to fix the problem you must first understand that the problem exists.

Schematically this is the same type of stuff as Johns was running and would represent a fairly significant shift:

What would it take for you to change your mind that no member of the current offensive staff would get a job at another power conference school? Your hypothetical claim is pretty challenging to disprove. Other than saying football coaching is generally one of the most inbred professions that exist, and being an abject failure in one location and getting a job in another happens literally every season. The greatest coaches in the history of football were fired from jobs for being bad at them, life is lived looking forward, but only understood looking backwards.

Wait, Johns is a bald guy from Piqua, Ohio? Maybe he didn’t get the job because Kirk snapped his fingers and Johns turned into Captain Underpants.

I explained to you why I think it with the resumes of the coaches we have plus the fact we’re the worst offense in the country. I acknowledge I’m not saying the Betts or Hodge are bad coaches.

I’m asking you to explain why you feel I’m wrong with an argument. It’s how people discuss things. I understand they’re is no way to “answer” my question with certainty. But you could explain why you think I’m wrong. Which I definitely could be.

Nevermind. Don’t worry about responding. It’s a theory I have that you don’t agree with therefore I’m an idiot. I’m done wasting both of our time on this

Johns has a very impressive resume with the offenses he has coordinated. He would be a solid hire. Lester hasn't put together great offenses when he is the OC. Although he would likely be a nice step up from Brian.

Just so very underwhelming if Lester. I’m ready for Kirk to bid us adieu in that event. Perhaps it’s sympathy for his dear son’s plight that caused him to view recent miserable failure as a resume attribute.

And what evidence would you need to disprove the hypothetical you laid out and answered with an “easy no”? I don’t think you, I, or anyone else has a real clue to your question. I think the two you’ve identified as “good coaches” would find jobs elsewhere. Why? I don’t know, they seem good at their jobs. Maybe I’m reading your statement too literally and you meant it in a way like I do when I say watching iowa play offense makes me want to stab my eyes out. This process has sucked, and Kirk had pretty much zero chance of getting it right in my eyes, not because of any of the people rumored or interviewed, but because of Kirk. He’s bad at offense, stubborn, and snarky. I would have preferred he retired because watching half a functional football team fucking sucks. That said, whomever is named isn’t Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz, and that’s improvement. Before rumored for Iowa’s job I think I knew the name of exactly 1 of the candidates, maybe you follow coaching a lot closer than I.

Lester isn’t horrible or anything. Just underwhelming. Especially after all that time. That decision could have been made within days if the bowl game.
I agree. I think he must have felt confident in Chryst and then something fell apart. I’m hopeful he’s actually able to run the offense that he has in the past. Most of it will fit and can be modified for more 2 TE stuff (1as H-back) to fit personnel.

What metrics do we need to see to judge this hire after next season? Somebody(else) make that poll with efficiency numbers please.

I’d prefer Johns but the Lester stuff is way over the top. He had some great offenses at WMU and would likely be bringing in several new concepts. I don’t think the gap between the two is anywhere near what it’s being made out to be.
I agree for the most part. At a minimum he can’t possibly be worse than Kirk’s son.

The entire process has been maddening and KF’s unwillingness to step a foot outside of his little bubble leaves me highly skeptical Lester is going to pan out. That is assuming it’s even him, which now appears to be so.

Ultimately though, I hope KF makes me look stupid and leads team to a few more 10 win seasons before riding off into the sunset.

I think we would feel better about Lester if he had been hired earlier. While don’t know a ton about the process he clearly was a fallback after Chryst, and he doesn’t impress head-to-head with Johns.

The running clock rules changes appear to justify a small adjustment in PPG expectations
