Did he call plays at WMU at least?

I'm trying to talk myself into this but his resume does seem a little more progressive than Johns who bounced around a lot at the same level.

My concern is how much experience does he have in play calling etc.
Sort of. He called two minute drives or something.

We won’t have to abide this for long. I think Kirk will hate the new look Big Ten, where he’s playing on opposite coasts on either side of a bye week, and will hang it up in December.

From 2018-2022

A lot of the talk about his Syracuse tenure is pretty overblown too. He didn't take over until mid-October, had pretty shit pieces to work with, and then increased their PPG by 10 full points in his first full season before Babers came in and installed his own staff.

It's a very B-grade hire that has the potential to be affected by whoever comes in as WR coach.
we’re in luck! it’s coach Bud, the heavenly gift

Why can't we have nice things?

IF we implement these concepts, much more on board with this hire.
Well we have:
1 QB who can P but not R.
1 QB who can R but not P
1 QB who can neither R nor P

So an RPO seems unlikely

I want to talk myself into optimism, but it’s hard. I suppose the case for his poor Syracuse performance is that you take what you can get and he boarded a sinking ship because he needed a job. Hopefully he learned something in Green Bay. Unlike Cletey, I don’t think he does shit for recruiting (at least without significant success on the field), and I think there’s close to zero chance he does anything to address the personnel problem at QB in the near term. C- at best.

You can run RPOs without particularly mobile QBs.

I hate you all, but mostly Kirk and his retardedness.

Would have been nice to hire a guy with, you know, a clear history of success instead of a guy we have to talk ourselves into maybe be okay.
This is the point that all the “you were going to complain no matter what” crowd seems to be too dumb to understand. Kirk took all this time to finally hire a guy that wasn’t in the role currently, with a decent history that you can clearly point to.

I think it’s sort of an inexcusable hire given the current “P2” state of college football.

You had a guy in Kevin Johns who had extensive experience designing and calling offenses at a P5 level. And, he was successful at many places that were hard to recruit and lacked resources. Johns also had extensive experience in the Big Ten which would have been nice. Instead, we get this Western Michigan cast-off. Nice.

I imagine the fact Lester hired Johns played a role
