Bill O'Brien may take Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz to Boston College in a heartbeat.

If true, that's actually some pretty impressive candidates for a somewhat shitty job like BC.
He's from there and I believe his family still lives there due to his son's medical needs so it actually is a good fit for both parties.

I have no idea who this guy is, came across my work MSN page. If local, he is a douche and douchy article. If national, a bad look for Iowa.

On October 30, 2023, the Iowa Hawkeyes announced that then-interim and now-permanent athletic director Beth Goetz fired offensive coordinator Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz effective at season’s end.

That paragraph is an assault on the English language.

Lester had prolific offenses in his first few seasons at Western Michigan. But after giving up the play-calling duties, the roof caved in with a 5-7 record in 2022.

Seems like he might be good at it.

I think he likely is pretty good at it. Bigger question is will Kirk stay out of the way

The length of the search was absurd, but the hire was fine.

I've posted previously I've come around to the hire. I definitely agree the hire was fine. I do think Iowa had an opportunity to land a splash hire. Someone who could positively influence offensive recruiting...something desperately needed. As it stands, Iowa has to find a way to win, and occasionally win with its offense if they want to improve the skill positions.

Lester gets to do that with the boy in a bubble and one that needs insulin shots at halftime. At least the line should be improved.

Given Kirk's age, the uncertainty at QB, and the shitty offensive roster...a 'splash' hire was near impossible.

Bj hunnicut sucked ass, traper John was the best. Colonel Blake too. Down hill from season 3.
new cast mash sucked.

it quickly became just a vehicle for alan alda's pseudo-intellectual liberal angst and navel gazing.

Might as well have him coach the position that is almost meaningless in Iowa's offense.
Here is hoping that Kirk is so pissed about not being able to hire him as an OC, that he force feeds the WR this year to prove to all us dumbshits that we don't know jack and Bud is amazing.

*This is in no way a serious post or prediction. It's weird that has to be said, but we seem to have way more of the Tism around here these days

It's annoying but is it that big of a deal? If a WR doesn't have the ability to get open, catch passes and block at the D1 level before he even gets to campus, I feel like it's not going to be coached into him by anyone. Making sure your WRs know where to be on a given play is something any idiot should be able to do and seems largely contingent on whether your OC is worth a shit.

The concern is the ability to convince the guys who can do those things to play here.

Sure Budmayr has never coached or played receiver. Kirk was in the same situation when he was hired as Iowa’s OL coach in the early 80s. But OC and veteran line coach Joe Philbin mentored him and look what Kirk became. Now Kirk can pass on this experience and mentor young Jon in WR play, which, for Kirk, is just like OL play.

I think there’s a real possibility Budmayr ends up beating out Chris white as the worst football coach of all time at any level of play but I’m looking forward to seeing it play out

He can’t be that bad. At no point in Chris White’s career would anyone ever hire him as an OC.

Only four different wide receivers caught a pass last year. They combined for 76 receptions, 754 yards and 3 touchdowns. I'd like to think that Budmayr could wander around the practice fields looking for four leaf clovers for the next six months and still improve those numbers, but we'll see.
