UNIMorehouse an iowa or uni grad?
UNIMorehouse an iowa or uni grad?
Assuming he actually believes that, the fact there has never been a single story on it in twenty years should be fireably negligent.Imagine knowing that "[the] culture has always been borderline bully, fully military and aggressive against black culture" as the lead sports reporter at the second-largest newspaper in the state (and largest in the region) for the entirety of the Ferentz era...and never reporting on it.
Marc's from DBQ and wasn't in the military...dunno how well versed he is on these topics..Imagine knowing that "[the] culture has always been borderline bully, fully military and aggressive against black culture" as the lead sports reporter at the second-largest newspaper in the state (and largest in the region) for the entirety of the Ferentz era...and never reporting on it.
Both. I'm sure that'll get your grundy undies in a bunch.Morehouse an iowa or uni grad?
Yep what an assholeHe is also close enough to this story to know that “ghetto” wasn’t said
You almost have to wonder, right? You have a guy who is going to claim that it's always been "aggressive against black culture" and for 20 years we get nothing but post-game recaps and tweets about hockey and beer?Assuming he actually believes that, the fact there has never been a single story on it in twenty years should be fireably negligent.
There are a variety of covers here - nobody would go on record, it was all innuendo and rumor, etc - but as a reporter, if you have believed this to be true for so long, don't you have an obligation to cover it? To reach out to former players, former transfers, etc, and build the story? I'm not saying failing makes you complicit, but if you are the Gazette and have declining circulation and income, this would make me furious. They have resources for few reporters, you're dedicating one to Iowa full-time, and you get nothing on this? You almost have to wonder, right? That the first time he’s putting anything like this forward is for a non-sports national reporter’s story is a pretty goddamn funny way to show their collective ineptitude. There are a variety of covers here - nobody would go on record, it was all innuendo and rumor, etc - but as a reporter, if you have believed this to be true for so long, don't you have an obligation to cover it? Unless the paper is why it hasn't been reported, but that's extremely unlikely.
Always is pretty definitive. He's likely full of it, but he's on the record (or at least implying) that this is something that was known. He was entrenched at arguably the most sigificant newspaper on UI athletics for 20 years. Had a pod and (I think) a couple of season recap books. Until the last couple of years where he seemed to start mailing it in, he was pretty well-liked here. You almost have to wonder, right? You have a guy who is going to claim that it's always been "aggressive against black culture" and for 20 years we get nothing but post-game recaps and tweets about hockey and beer?
You are right but likely will be cancelled for noting the elephant in the room.I am guessing he regrets the way it came out. Marc seems like a good guy.
iowa isn’t aggressive against black culture- Iowa’s culture is a shock to kids who don’t come from or seek a disciplined, structured environment. Unfortunately, this affects more black kids than white kids because they are more than twice as likely to come from a single parent household, which contributes (but is not the only cause of) the issue.
at the same time, I can also believe that it’s time to assess whether or not thats iowa culture has a net positive or negative overall effect.
Actually the military is probably the most racially diverse organization in the United StatesSo is the military aggressively anti-black culture too? Maybe we should cancel them
I wonder why??Actually the military is probably the most racially diverse organization in the United States
Nope. The military is 57% white as of 2017. Pretty standard actually.Actually the military is probably the most racially diverse organization in the United States
Yeah, I was wrong. No way. Maybe if he worked in another sector but he's in media (sorta) for god's sake. You'd have to be a special kind of idiot to not choose your words carefully when you get called by a reporter from a national media outlet who you don't know.
“He’s been building a grandpa image with the help of a public relations firm,” he said. “You miss shit like your strength coach telling kids to go back to the ghetto.”
This is some bridge burning shit. That's pretty scathing, imo, considering it was coming from a media member and not someone who didn't know what they were doing.
being quite close to the US demographics as an organization would qualify as pretty diverse IMO. if an org is all POC that is no more diverse than one being all white.Nope. The military is 57% white as of 2017. Pretty standard actually.
While I'll give you it's quite diverse. You can't really believe it to be the most racially diverse in the nation, right?Actually the military is probably the most racially diverse organization in the United States
Yea that is a good call. My outrage at @nolookpass claim has been reduced.being quite close to the US demographics as an organization would qualify as pretty diverse IMO. if an org is all POC that is no more diverse than one being all white.
Maybe not the most diverse but I'm guessing it's way more diverse than the average high school, college or work place of those of us who post hereWhile I'll give you it's quite diverse. You can't really believe it to be the most racially diverse in the nation, right?
My high school was almost 60 percent Latino.Maybe not the most diverse but I'm guessing it's way more diverse than the average high school, college or work place of those of us who post here
And at least 1% douchebag. My high school was almost 60 percent Latino.
do you think that an organization with 100% black people is the most diverse or least diverse? While I'll give you it's quite diverse. You can't really believe it to be the most racially diverse in the nation, right?
They aren't angling for a bigger gig, there are no bigger gigs and neither of them want one.I don't think there is any question at this point that guys like RH and MM are attempting to show the appropriate amount of outrage here angling for some bigger gig. Its so contrived
I would guess somewhere in the 300-400 range until he proves that he can run the program smoothly for the first couple years.I'm curious what Braithwaite's salary will be if he gets the head position. Currently making around 220k, which is awesome for an asst S&C coach. He's been there 16 years, so maybe 350-400? 3 of the top 10 highest paid strength coaches before Doyle getting dismissed were from the B10 (Iowa, tOSU, Mich). 5 of the top 10 are from the SEC (Alabama, Tenn, A&M, LSU, GA). 1 from the ACC (Clemson) and 1 from the Big 12 (OSU). Rob Glass has been at OSU for 26 years and makes 500k. He's one of the best in the country. Is a huge a-hole, but has always been able to build great relationships with the players and they respect him.
It's the same reason you don't date a stripper. We joke about how much these guys seem to hate their jobs and resent what they get paid, but maybe that's what it boils down to. It's easy to risk it all when you have nothing to lose.
And at least 1% douchebag.![]()
If thats the case, why the feigned outrage? They aren't angling for a bigger gig, there are no bigger gigs and neither of them want one.
They’re angling for Twitter clout. It’s the equivalent of the white guys who wanted every black person they talked with to know that they voted for Obama. They just want these recruits/former players to know that they “get it”. When they don’t get it at all. They aren't angling for a bigger gig, there are no bigger gigs and neither of them want one.
Correct. They are human beings and want love and attention along with the chance to be White Knight. They’re angling for Twitter clout. It’s the equivalent of the white guys who wanted every black person they talked with to know that they voted for Obama. They just want these recruits/former players to know that they “get it”. When they don’t get it at all.
I thought the comment on Ferentz is 1000x more egregious. He is essentially calling Kirk a fake and a phony. The Howe thing is transparent, but the Morehouse thing is honestly worse than anything Howe has done yet. Howe is just being over the top with all of this. For Morehouse to actual go on record that things have always been aggressive against black culture is pretty strong.
I meant all of it, yeah. The culture's always been bad, Kirk is cultivating a nice guy image to hide it, etc. Howe is just being a dipshit with stuff like providing DJK a platform without checking the story, but the Morehouse thing is a flat out accusation directly coming from Marc.I thought the comment on Ferentz is 1000x more egregious. He is essentially calling Kirk a fake and a phony.
An update from Blair:According to a poster on HR, Iowa is adding a 6’4” 255 lb grad transfer DE from NIU. Matt Lorbeck. He had 12 TFLs, 5.5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles over the last 2 years.
Talked to a couple people at Bay Port High School, who said it's in the works. They told me Lorbeck is currently taking classes this summer and is on track to graduate in August. He's only been at Northern Illinois for three years and never redshirted. From what they understand, the plan coming in is to play in four games in 2020 and redshirt and then compete for a starting job in 2021.
Most diverse may be a stretch, but I can only speak from my experience that my units were always about 50% white, 50% Black, Latino, etc. While I'll give you it's quite diverse. You can't really believe it to be the most racially diverse in the nation, right?
6 out of the ten kids were Mexican. Spreadsheet updatedMy high school was almost 60 percent Latino.
