the actual real/important allegations haven't even been discussed much for like six weeks. Howe, PHarty, etc decided to make it about Wadley and DJK, probably because guys like James Daniels wanted their criticism to be constructive.

Right. Every college team does this to some extent, but it sounds like Iowa was/is throwing a real bait and switch. Find a way to talk to the players and make them feel at home. Let them know it's going to be hard from the start but the program is 100% behind them and there for them from the beginning.

As others have mentioned, that's why it would have been crucial to have other coaches around whose main role was to keep an eye out for players who seem like they're struggling with the "culture" or whatever and support them.
I think what you’re asking for is akin to describing what it’s like to be a parent to a 25 year old single guy. You can say the words, but you really need to go through it to understand. Hopefully veteran players can lead the way a little more and talk to their journey through it.
