Q. How would you evaluate Spencer Petras after six weeks?

KIRK FERENTZ: He's done a good job handling the circumstances. That's really going back to the evaluation question. That's how we do it. We try to be realistic about what the picture looks like and then make a fair assessment. He's done a lot of good things. I think he's improved, gained confidence, as crazy as that may sound. I think he's doing a lot of good things out there. We just need to get better collectively offense level. That's my encouragement.

Q.Seems like you guys are throwing more laterally or short of the goal line as opposed to into the end zone. Is that based on personnel more, or is that strategy-based?

KIRK FERENTZ: It's strategy-based, but I don't know that it's any different than any other year. Each game you try to match up and do what you feel might be effective. If you're throwing it short of the goal line, you're hoping to get a running catch. I'm thinking a game early in the season where we caught one on the 2 and couldn't turn up and score. It might have been a big play in the game. That's been representative of things we've done actually.

😂 everyone knew how bad the offense would be this year and still sold out every game. You fuckers will continue to pay whatever is asked. In fact, I'm sure Gary is looking at price increases for next season.

Just no accountability at any level. It's maddening. Boosters probably have little sway at this point with Barta either. The only thing that will hold him accountable would be for there to be half empty stadiums in the future and that will never happen due to the nature of Iowa fan.

I don't think this season feels remotely similar to last year. 10 win season with big ten west top finish vs. potentially a .500 team that's been booed at every home game

I hate saying this, let alone thinking it, but I think the football program is unfortunately in a slow death spiral until certain things and/or staff positions change.

A near-elite defense and STs - combined with the unquestionably worst offense in the entire fucking country [including a portion of the HS level] - can only win you so many games in a top level P5 conference. Even if the division your in sucks pretty hard as a whole.

I’m not as sure about ticket sales next year as you are. I don’t live in Iowa though so I’m distanced. My college group has had no interest in meeting up for a game at this point and that hasn’t happened since we were deep into the middle of our child rearing years.

Same here. My group makes an away game every year. Even in 2012 we were in East Lansing to watch Vandenberg. Still getting together in a few weeks but not going to a game. No one seems to give a shit lol

SP+ and FEI actually have them ranked just outside the top 25. Which is actually around where they ranked last year. Massey composite has them lower.

Basically the systems that use drive or pbp data are higher on them than score based computers. The defense really is elite and the special teams are very good. They will get crushed at Ohio State and underdogs at Minnesota, but they will be favored v Northwestern and Nebrantska. Wisconsin and Purdue would be tossups and even Minnesota will be a phone booth game.
