Nice play by the young guy. That QB sure stared the receiver down.
Two strong traditions on display here:
1. Iowa DB getting a turnover
2. Terrible mid 90s music on the Kinnick speakers.
It was for the kidsThe playlist Saturday was awful and it’s the same one they have used since 2010
Knock it offWe goin’ to da ‘ship
I also hope he quarterbacks the Iowa Hawkeyes at an All-American levelI hope that man has a wonderful season.
So what’s the pink and what’s the stink@AZmess and I believe he's going to shock the world this season.

-Spencer Petras
(and Marcus Aurelius)
Oh, I have no doubt he will give the entire Iowa program and fanbase a giant shocker.@AZmess and I believe he's going to shock the world this season.
He did break Jared Goff's records.Petras has incredible arm talent. Hopefully all the talk about simplifying the offense pays off for him
I'll take itIf he stays healthy, I think he plays well enough to start the entire season. Though I think his ceiling is still mid of the pack douche
30*26 more starts
He’s a leader of men.@AZmess and I believe he's going to shock the world this season.
If he's an average QB in the I am a giant douche (talking 7th in QBR) we will fly.If he stays healthy, I think he plays well enough to start the entire season. Though I think his ceiling is still mid of the pack douche
Average in the Bigten at QB isn’t actually very good at all.If he's an average QB in the I am a giant douche (talking 7th in QBR) we will fly.
I haven't witnessed a single thing suggesting that might happen, however
This is why I have almost no hope.Yeah, we've heard about how much better Spencer is every year going into the season. It's never showed up on the field.
Only excuses. Poor reaction time. Difficulty handling pressure. Then sad interviews about how his mom reads social media.
If he's the same ol Spencer I hope the boo birds sing loud and proud at Kinnick. If he's somehow great, I will be happy to give credit where credit is due.
I'm not a football coach, so I could be completely wrong here, but in college football, it seems to me that most great college QBs are great because they exploit bad defenses by improvising and extending plays, or sticking to matchup advantages they have rather than pre-snap decisions. This is college football, not the NFL, the defenses WILL make mistakes, basing your entire passing offense around the idea they won't seems to be a bad strategy to me. When you have George Kittle on your team, telling your QB not to throw to him because your pre-snap read tells you he probably won't be open is dumb."...I think the hardest thing is like a lot of times you'll go out and hit a completion, but somebody else was wide open somewhere else and most of the time that happens, there's one or two reasons, one the QBs eyes were in the wrong spot, he threw to the wrong person who shouldn't have been open, but somehow was or he forced the ball in there and bad things happen, or two, the guy he didn't throw to who seems to be wide open that everybody in the 5th row 20 Busch Lights deep sees and he doesn't know what's wrong the QB or play caller, the QB was never going to look at that guy. Never. Because defensively, structurally, he should be covered, but they made a mistake. We can't count on bad defense. We have to count on them doing what they're supposed to do, because that's going to yield those results, which is going to lead to increasing that completion percentage. Hope is not a method, not a strategy...."
A mistake that most fans make is in believing that a QB can or should survey all options before making a throw. There just isn't time for that.I'm not a football coach, so I could be completely wrong here, but in college football, it seems to me that most great college QBs are great because they exploit bad defenses by improvising and extending plays, or sticking to matchup advantages they have rather than pre-snap decisions. You said Brian over complicates the offense then you over complicated a quote. This is why I have almost no hope.
I recently forced myself to listen to the Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz podcast with Leistikow and it really reinforced my prior bias that Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz overcomplicates a college offense and he's trying to make college players work an NFL scheme that they aren't able to run. I think that's the entire problem with the Iowa passing game, he doesn't have NFL QBs, but he's asking his QB's to make decisions like an NFL QB to have success. The entire problem can be summed up in his QB conversation that starts around the 49 minute mark and is interesting through like 75 minutes, the money quote for me from Brian was at 1 hour 12 minutes (in reference to QBs):

The entire Iowa offense needs to be simplified IMO - do a few things really well, starting with the running game, and use a basic play action passing attack that compliments the run and integrates two TE's on most offensive sets and gives the QB the ability to exploit defenses that make mistakes, taking deep shots to keep the defense honest. Focus on funneling the ball to your offensive talent (this year, Keagan Johnson/Sam La Porta especially) and stop trying to ask college QBs to play the game like they're in the NFL.
Well you aren’t at practice, mister. If he's an average QB in the I am a giant douche (talking 7th in QBR) we will fly.

This, of all things, is the most maddening thing about the Iowa football offense. You have an incredible defense that is built on the principle that nearly all college QB's and offenses aren't good enough to put together 10+ play drives without making a mistake. Keep them in front of you, force them to march down the field and tighten up when you get inside the red zone. They know that modern college football relies on explosive plays and sets out to never give them up. It works. Phil Parker is (mostly) a genius. This is why Iowa usually leads or is near the top of the country in interceptions.Part of the Iowa defensive success for years is that it forces the QB to take what’s in front of them and not go for the big play. But then we’re mad BF suggests Petras should just take what the defense makes available. Ok then.
Lol JK.Petras is going to put up absolutely crazy numbers this year. No more doubting. We’ve got our King.
He’s going to be mediocre at best.Yeah, we've heard about how much better Spencer is every year going into the season. It's never showed up on the field.

But better than we have beenAverage in the Bigten at QB isn’t actually very good at all.
