I guess I don’t recall “because I’m the head coach and I said so” ever being given as a reason at a presser. Nor an offense dead fucking last by a good margin after the first two weeks of the season.
Probably because none of those shitty personnel decisions from the past involved anyone quite as profoundly terrible as Spencer Petras.

When coupled with the predictability with which we employ it, it is extremely easy for a modern defense with modern athletes to snuff out.
The first part is the biggest problem. Iowa is incredibly predictable based on formation, and given that their pass game is also largely horizontal, the run game is just no threat.

That clip shared yesterday of the ISU cornerback sprinting towards the RB with no hesitation on the snap was incredibly telling.

If everyone would've blocked perfectly, the play could've gone for 10 yards.

Instead, no one blocked anyone.

Can you get away from predictability when the base of your scheme is premised on executing 2 and only 2 running plays extremely well?

That highlighted clip was a counter that they ran 3-4 times.

The way they run the zone scheme needs to be replaced. Many of the best college and NFL teams run zone as their base run play. Those teams are just better at dressing it up, using RPOs and meshing it into the pass game.
The RPO is a little more difficult to execute at the NFL level due to the ineligible receiver downfield rules which differ from the NCAA.

I don’t understand that though. Charlie Jones knew what the offense was at Iowa before be chose to transfer there in the first place.

On a positive note, were it not for this historically terrible offense, Brian would 100% be the next HC in a few years when Kirk decides to retire. Even Iowa's normal mediocre offense would probably be enough for the university to go through the motions of a coaching search before settling on that greasy fuck.

I know it's a "sell out" but there are lots of cheap tix on StubHub, including some (relatively) good deals for Kinnick Edge. I'll be interested to see what actual turnout looks like.

I was listening to one of the SXM national college football talk shows on the way home the other night. They brought up the Iowa offense and the guy that was talking was basically in utter dismay about how bad the Iowa offense is. Referred to horrible schemes and coaching. He admitted that any Hawkeye fan, coach or player is well aware of the fact we aren't gonna surprise anybody with our offense, that everybody knows exactly what we are going to do.

However, he went on to basically chastise the coaching staff for how may obvious 'gives' the receivers, TEs and linemen are giving to the opposing defenses, and how they can yell out the exact plays time and again before we even run them. I'm not good at breaking down film, but based on how shitty the team is doing this year, I will take this talking head at his word.

if that is indeed the case, that goes SQUARELY on BOTH Ferentz' heads. Fuck them.

We sat their for the SDSU game. It’s impressive and worth the money.

StubHub shows $112 for KE. Assuming you can stand watching the offense, I’d wait until tomorrow then pull the trigger. You might be able to get those seats for under $80.

Right. It's not the coaches' fault if Petras sucks and can't execute what they're trying to do. (I mean it is, they recruited and developed him and continue to start him, but let's be charitable for a second.)

It is 100% the coaches' fault that opposing defenses basically know what Iowa is going to do based on down, distance, and formation.

They were talking about how the offensive line sets up prior to the snap.

I would rather have Petras' high school coaches coach the Iowa offense

Sure. But plenty of other people have posted some awfully damning analyses that show stuff like Iowa running 80% of the time under center, passing 90% of the time out of shotgun, etc.

Just the worst of the worst offense.

That, and the way the TE in motion was leaning, turning their shoulders, where they were looking, etc...... basically 100 tells all at the same time

What do you do if you have the worst offense in the country and likely the worst starting Qb in the country? If you’re KF, nothing.
I’d be looking to clean some things up, certainly.

I hate to be picky, Mikey, but the word "developed" implies improvement.
