Brian’s biggest fault isn’t having a poorly structured and overly complex offense, but those things are faults. It’s his misses at quarterback recruiting.
FIFY.

Stanley was GDGD's guy and pretty good when he wasn't getting the yips in close/big game situations.

Padilla showed that he was serviceable in 2021 when he was given a shot, sufficient practice time, and actually gave a shit about football.

The big miss, and it's a huge fucking miss, was in making Spencer Petras "the guy" after whiffing on Will Levis. (Could have had Max Duggan if we had focused on in-state efforts, could have let Zach Wilson come in and commit, but instead we consciously selected Guitar Boy.)

Of course, but you can expect Vanessa Miller to launch a 10 part investigation into it if he does. You know, because title IX.
She works for a newspaper with a circulation smaller than the population of 30,000 or less. She'd need to double it to qualify as a nobody. If you're running scared from that...

I really thought it was a good idea how Kirk didn’t give Padilla any snaps in the Nevada blowout in order to prove a point to the fan base that he was right about Petras and they should shut up, but then tossed Padilla in there against Ohio State when Petras got “hurt” after his second INT. A recipe for success, some might say. As evidenced by what happened against Nebrantska. Regardless, I think they are both turd QBs but didn’t have much help from turd-tastic Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz or the turdy receiving corps.

We’re going to follow imaginary rules, in an effort to appear morally superior, knowing it will make things harder on ourselves. HHH, Gar Bear.
Everyone has worked with internal counsel like this.

You can either choose to believe we have the best counsel in the world and have identified a material risk none of our competitors have....OR you can conclude we're being way too GD conservative.

Perfectly said. Either every other school is about to get the hammer dropped on them (which, lol), or our compliance group doesn't understand something.

OR, this is all a cover for general incompetent leadership.

Might be unpopular or already addressed, but selling my info as a ticket holder to a third party would sort of piss me off, regardless of the party (if i am not given the opportunity to opt out, anyway.) You can solicit me directly and say check this out, but if Brad wants my email and phone number, he can get it the old fashioned way - on the bathroom stall door at the old Hooters in Davenport.
in all honesty, I do not know a single person that would want to get a call from Swarm. I don’t know anyone that is going to donate anything meaningful to it.

I think the idea is to have the AD send out emails to the ticket holders showing a video message of Kirk, Fran, etc supporting the collective. Not necessarily giving contact info straight to Brad for cold calling.

Not really. It’s more likely that we (and others) have decided that this is a horrible use of limited funds.

ok, well I don’t know a single person that would watch that. Is anyone on this board donating anything material to SWARM? Maybe I am off base, but a good chunk of this board represents 1) the target donor market and 2) people smart enough with their money to not give it away to college players

They will undoubtedly be cold calling.

the foundation calls me a lot and I feel like every time it’s immediately after one of our teams did something stupid.

I don’t think this board or any message board would have the people being targeted. We already know all about the Swarm and have made a decision as to whether or not to contribute. There are tons of other older donors that don’t know jack about NIL and would watch a video on their desktop as they diligently go through emails each day. For those people, it might be enough to get them to contribute.

Never would I think I'd be glad Ragaini is staying but after losing two starters combined with a pretty underwhelming portal haul, they need him.

Lol

the idea that old people are going to pay athletes $500 at a time seems laughable to me. Maybe I am wrong.

the collectives need to focus on large corporate and whale donors who care way too much about sports, like SEC fans. In general, Iowans are too frugal and rational to make a huge grassroots impact.

If by some miracle we can get a guy or two from the portal the room won't be great, but respectable. Assuming Iowa gets an offensive coordinator who recognizes WRs aren't just out there to watch everyone else play football.

Iowa State was promoting can drives as their funding source.

This doesn't make any sense to me. We have 70k people showing up to Kinnick. How many season ticket holders are there, like 40k? If those people care enough to spend at least $500 a year to go to games, majority double or triple that with seat upgrades. What's another 200 to join the Swarm? Finding 10k people to join at the minimum of $200 gets us $2M a year to spend on players.

I'm gladly paying 15 extra bucks a game next year to watch McNamara be our quarterback instead of all our other stiffs. It will save me money in the long run by not buying six extra beers at Kinnick to drown out the memory of Petras sucking balls.

How about the idea that the fans shouldn't be paying for players?

I’m pretty sure the response of Kirk and company to Vanessa is, “who?”

Ragaini announced he’s coming back. Shannon and Benson will be talking to Kirk after the season and I would put money on Shannon returning. Benson is probably a toss up.

if Nico can fix the drops, Brecht can stay healthy, and we can find someone to step up or transfer in as a downfield threat, I am not particularly worried about the offense.

qb will be vastly improved. RB and TE are both potential pros. Line will be better if healthy.
