I may be dumber than Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz for believing this, but I think if Spence enters the mentally broken space again this weekend ol Kirk will pull the plug. But not before Spence thoroughly covers the field in diarrhea, and only temporarily. He’ll convince himself Spence has it in him by Nevada kickoff.

I just cannot get over how atrocious the OL has been all of last year & this season looks the same, maybe worse. How? That’s shocking to me.
Last week there were pretty much 10 guys within 7 yards of the line of scrimmage most of the time. I think that’s part of how they are worse. Absolutely zero threat to be beaten on a pass play. Seriously a twenty yard completion and Iowa fans celebrate like we won the super bowl. As has been mentioned, we are in an abusive relationship with offense.

When we do run some nice play action with the naked boot, Spence is way too much of a pussy to EVER look at the second level. He's missed on that so many times and just dumps it off for 4 yards to his first option.
He considers it a long handoff where there is but one option.

There was a beautiful play action where Wick was wide open on a deep square in 25 yards downfield, and Petras forced it to a double covered tight end. The rest of the play actions, Petras looked like he was scared to have his back to the defensive line resulting in a rushed incompletion.

Brian consciously and intentionally chose this with his focus on getting it out quickly to play to Spencer’s strengths. He’s a fucking moron. Greg Davis without the resume.

Which is exactly why Padilla is the better option. He’ll at least look for that play.

The one thing we should feel confident about with a Ferentz team is OL play. Especially with multiple returning starters. Their terrible play should be as concerning as the unbridled support for Spencer. Unless there is a dramatic change in performance next weekend I'm starting to agree with the poster who said this is starting to feel like the last few years of Fry.

Coach(es) that are old and out of touch with the game and have let recruiting at key positions slip to an almost unfixable level coupled with an outdated scheme that was rendered ineffective 5+ years ago by rule changes. One that is hammered down fans and players throats as a big fuck you to the rule makers out of pride and stubbornness.

The Oline has rarely been anything other than average. There have been individuals who were freaking studs, but most years seem like a Linderbaum situation where there's one great player and the rest are just ok or outright suck.
Exactly. When was the last great unit? When even was the last great side? I know they won that award a few years ago but that felt like a fucking Candid Camera joke at the time.

I’d say 2019 the OL was pretty good. Linderbaum, Wirfs, the Vegan all were drafted pretty high.
guard play sucked. Michigan blitzed at the Paulsens every play.

Probably the closest but the guards sucked. Especially the twins.

Fucking scooped.

I'm glad they won 10 games and the west but last year was absolute fluke. The ball bounced (or floated) their way a lot.

As a fan I'll certainly take it, because there have been years where Iowa should have been a 10+ win team and lady luck was not on their side.

But nobody could seriously watch that team trip all over itself on the offensive side of the ball and see a real contender.

If Iowa State’s defensive coordinator or any defense playing Iowa, I play run heavy fronts and blanket LaPorta. I’d also blitz more than usual given Spencer’s inability to move or make a decision.

Given the year’s low expectations, Campbell is going to balls out to win this game with unconventional/trick plays.

Without a QB change, I think Iowa has to go +2 in turnovers to have a chance to win.

Watching your team lose isn't very fun, but watching your team win is supposed to be. I'll take the Ws over the Ls any day, but there is very little joy in watching Iowa football even when they grind it out. I love a good defense, but come on.

I fully expect a real shitty 13-3 type game full of infuriating moments and general dumbfuckery. I just hope the offense can keep the defense off the field long enough for them to breathe.

I think at this point we’d all be extremely happy watching this defense coupled with a slightly below average offense. But even that is laughably unattainable.

I think Iowa is going to get 4+ turnovers, including 1 they score on. I also predict pain for any Clown that carries the ball.

I keep coming back to this. We've heard Ferentz bitch about the cut block rule changes a bunch, but at some point don't you have to just swallow your pride and change what you want to do to adapt to this new reality?

I suppose Gary Barta has answered that question with a no.

What a bunch of bullshit, pansy, pearl clutching pussies we have here. Iowa’s D is going to drag their nuts all over ISU for 4 quarters. Then they are going fuck your moms. 30-13, bitches

I predict a fake punt that will be executed brilliantly.

Who is Iowa's #2 receiver with Keegan Johnson possibly leaving?

Here's the VKS, RATT take. The O/U for the game is 41.5. So one of three possibilities:

1) Iowa is getting blown out
2) Iowa is going to score some points
3) Vegas has no idea what they're doing

Of the 3, I think 2 probably actually is the most likely.
