You’re talking about a guy that’s pathologically risk adverse; to an absolute extreme. If the same guy believes Spencer is the very best QB on this team…and believes he gives this this team the best chance to win….I dont think it’s crazy at all to say he would choose to stick with him rather than deal with the impact of potentially having to bench that QB moving forward. He doesn’t see the gap being big enough to risk it.
He is not “pathologically” risk adverse. There are serious issues but you are being hysterical.

I think Brian is basically Scott Frost level stupid
Brian would need to take several steps up to be at Frosts level. Frost at Nebrantska has been a disaster, but he had pretty good success at all of his other coaching jobs. Brian at Iowa has been a down grade at every spot he has taken.

The offense/qb situation is maddening. But Iowa really does have elite defense and special teams. Idgaf how great Dekkers looked against a bunch of scrubs from Missurah. The Iowa defense is going to try to kill him, and might succeed.

Are we sure they didn’t go to the portal? Couldn’t anybody decent in the portal have had no interest in us? I mean, there was no fucking way someone like Kaden Slovis was signing onto the obvious shitshow that was the Iowa offense last year. Maybe no one else was either?
They have the worst QB in America. Nearly anyone should be an upgrade

I actually agree with doug here. Think back to the WMU game in 2007. We lost at home with a bowl bid on the line. It was fucking UGLY in the stands.

I really hope driving 6 hours to go to this game isn’t another one of my extremely ill conceived life choices.

for some reason I rode a cambus home that night. As we drove past the field house lot I remember thinking that this is why we can’t have nice things. It looked like a bomb went off.

While fond of that one, I had already graduated and watched it alone in an Applebees bar in Salt Lake City.
I’m more partial to 1998. Although 2000 lead to a fun night in IowaCity afterwards.

My step dad used to get complimentary tickets to ISU games back in the 80's and early 90's. If I recall correctly I went to eight or nine games in Ames. ISU was winless in those games. Seems like they lost to Kansas in one of them. This was of course BTB...Before the bridge.

I had a car parked in the Fieldhouse Lot that day. On the way into the stadium, my buddy got popped for public intox. After the game, we had to find someone who could blow 0.0 in order to bail him out of jail. He’s an orthopedic surgeon now. #GloryDays

Being at that 1998 game is still one of the darkest sports moments of my life. Until that point, I’d lived in a world where not only did Iowa beat iowa state every year, they beat them into the ground. A good lesson for a young lad.

It’s not because he values loyalty over winning. That’s dumb.

It’s because he overvalues certain characteristics in determining what contributes to winning.
That’s right, and the stubbornness, which can be more charitably rephrased as a commitment to doing thing Iowa’s way, is the continuity that makes Iowa typically much better tweak the sum of its parts.

Kirk marrying himself to a bad QB once a decade is the bitter that comes with the sweet of his commitment to his process elsewhere.

This team visiting Kinnick on Saturday is coming off a 7-6 season, lost some good players and played a less than stellar opponent in their first game. Iowa played as poorly on offense as any game I can remember. I'll take Iowa's defense and even a marginally better showing by the offense to continue the winning streak over ISU.
SE Missouri State is BAD. Not a little bad. Really, really, really bad. Iowa State didn’t beat them any worse than you’d expect out of any reasonably good FCS team. SDSU beats them about that badly.

I think Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz is ready to take the next step in his career and be their next head coach.

The good thing is that the expectation is losing...at least for me.

SDSU was the beginning of the end for Bridawg. Losing to ISU would accelerate the process, assuming we continue to be completely inept on offense, which I think we will, certainly.

I hold out some hope that SDSU is elite on defense (lol) and that Iowa State sucks more than them.

Iowa State is without a doubt better at the skill positions on offense than SDSU, but I think their OL might be far worse than SDSU.

So many variables to consider. The one certainty is that Brian and his offense/QB will be terrible and something for the defense to overcome.

Iowa has dominated the turnover battle in this series for some time which has helped Iowa win several times.
That’s certainly going to change on Saturday. Spence is a turnover waiting to happen on nearly every drop back. I see no scenario in which he doesn’t turn it over at least twice. Probably more. Couple picks and a strip sack as McDonald pwns Jack Plumb.
Iowas best hope would be running the ball about 85% of the time.

Would you trade losing to Iowa State for a Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz resignation?

Man, I don't know.
When there is cancer, surgery must be performed. Surgery is painful.

I do think that even if iowa state wins, ol BriDAWG will be here forever, but this is a fun exercise.

Iowa wins the toss, takes the ball, calls a few simple pass plays to get Spencer going and show the world that the Ferentzs aren’t retarded.

He may even look halfway competent on a couple of the scripted plays he has practiced 700 times this week. But the second anything goes off plan…..
