Kirk / Brian / Spencer have the coal shoveled into the engine, the steam is pumping and the Hawkeye Express is headed towards Kinnick Gulch ready to drive right over the cliff and kill the season.

I would anticipate around roughly 5pm on Saturday the vitriol and hate will be at a deafening level in Kinnick Stadium. By roughly 6pm there will be some really ugly violence going on in the parking lots. It's going to be a drunken bloody shit show.

Hunter Dekkers, Horse Tooth Campbell and the whole Iowa State team will be wildly celebrating and taking pics in the end zone. Chants of CYCLONE STATE!! breaking out all over the stadium and up and down Melrose.

Brian should watch that screen pass over and over and over until he figures out the fuckface he has playing quarterback can’t complete the simplest of passes on a consistent basis to help the offense. With a quarterback that bad the other position groups and coaches lose any margin or error.

I think the most horrifying realization of how bad things could go this year is seeing that the coaching staff in game 1 was already completely reliant on the defense to save the team. I can see Iowa losing a ton of close games this year because they actually do get a small early lead and Kirk tires to sit on it even more than usual until the poor defense finally breaks.

Happened yesterday. They got a 5-3 lead and Kirk was perfectly content to just run the ball up the middle nearly every play and punt. That is a fucking dangerous precedent to set.

Here is another silver lining we can cling to.... or maybe it isn't a silver lining and is actually more depressing.

Iowa and Kirk have been down this road multiple times before with Christensen/Stanzi and Rudock/Beathard and each time he has eventually made the right change.

What makes it not a silver lining and somewhat horrifying and depressing is that this time there is no backup that is clearly better. Padilla is barely an upgrade and it seems that Labas is fucking awful. They aren't going to go with May as he isn't even dressing.

In a perfect world they would have politely told Petras/Padilla to move on or they would have had enough pride to move on and they could have grabbed a transfer QB with Labas as the backup.

Charlie Jones would still be here, might have even gotten a transfer WR. The season would be looking so much better.

I cannot fathom that they chose to let Petras come back and that loser didn't have the balls to transfer back home. Fuck him.

Iowa defense and ST play valiantly, but can’t force enough turnovers to overcome the worst offense in modern Iowa history. Our 1 touchdown comes from a very short field. Very few sustained drives otherwise.

The offense is WAY worse than most people think. They averaged barely over 4 yards per play last year, which is good enough for like the 100th worst offense in the nation. Yesterday that is under 3, against an fcs team, with their loan scoring drive going 5 yards and a fg.
