I'm not reading all of this thread, but Diaz gets open and when teams dare Iowa to throw deep, they should probably throw deep.
This is the part that didn’t make sense to me. Brown wasn’t under much pressure most of the night. He got hit a few times but that happens. Iowa State continued covering him with 1 guy. He should have had 5 or 6 deep shots in the second half alone.

But none of that was going to happen once Iowa gained control of the field position game.

They did, but still not nearly enough and not at the right times.
The first down play calls were bad. I think they threw at least 5 or 6 long throws - more than they have in years. Connected on a couple and multiple were bad throws with a couple questionable PI. I agree though, throw 10.

I don't care how it happened. Just happy to have that fucking game in the rearview mirror with a W.

Also watching with my kids who don't understand the annoyance of this fucking game helps because they were just going nuts with the made FG.

The 3 game opening Big Ten stretch is a million times better with this game being a win.

They have to be willing to throw an interception every now and then.
Also, especially for a team like Iowa, if it is 3rd and 10 or more, throw a fucking deep ball. It either serves as a punt if picked, or you get a huge play. It helps you zero to get 5 yards.

The big thank you we owe Campbell and Iowa State is that no matter what we think or how annoying this game is to us, nationally it is seen as a tough rivalry game. The score is thrown out for this one. Winning is all that matters, Iowa is not going to be be punished for only winning by a field goal.

All of them don't necessarily have to be to Diaz, I like it, but they've gone away from using the TE down the seams like the past....do more of both.

Jimmy plays Ferentz-ball. Makes the game a muddy dog fight. Dares you to beat him doing what you don't like doing.

Last year at Washington State they gave a Top 5 team a hell of a game (Ole Miss 24-20) on the road and nearly beat a ranked Virginia team (22-20) on the road. Nearly beat CFP team James Madison (24-20) as well.

I’ve seen a few comments from ISU fans about jimmy turtling, but that’s 100% the right call when playing Kurt

Whew. It's awesome to win that game vs. losing it. Especially looking around the Big Ten after the 2nd full weekend. It's wide open, and Iowa will most likely get a lot better as the year goes on.

There isn't a truly scary team in the entire league. All of them have flaws, and the one that likely is the scariest you get at home.

Iowa State doesn’t really have a QB so they’re forced to play a game where they have 7 offensive lineman on the field. They had maybe 1 completion where their guy was open. Another where their guy dropped it/was a bad throw. Everything else was contested.

Are they good? Not really, and they’re fucked in any game they get behind a couple scores. But they have a great kicker and won’t turn the ball over much. I can’t imagine that’s how their offense is going to look long term.

I don't remember much over the middle of the field. They're scared to throw over the middle.

The weird dumb thing he did was at the end of the first half he didn't call a timeout and force Iowa to kick that FG with like a minute left. He made it, but with their kicker all they have to do is get to midfield and they have a shot to get points.

You could tell from that alone that Jimmy has a lot of Kirk in him.

The Cougs got beat by UW 59-24 last year. Same dynamic as Iowa State Iowa. Let's not suck Jimmy's dick yet.

Lol channel 8 having Caitlin Clark's brother on the pre and post game show. I think Caitlin took the same number of snaps that he did.

They clearly don't trust Hank yet (nor should they) and don't put him in many throws that require much more than looking at his first option and hoping it is there. Throwing over the middle requires a lot more processing the defense and seeing the field to make sure you aren't forgetting about a LB or Safety that is just standing there waiting to pick it off.

My guess as we go later in the year and if he proves himself, they will throw over the middle a lot more.

That was the 4th game of the year and first against a Power 4 team. They never lost by more than 4 after that, including the 2 CFP teams and ranked Virginia all on the road. That's pretty fucking good.

Now you can add a 3 point loss on the road against a ranked Iowa team. Jimmy can coach.

They’re also in a spot where it’s going to be tougher once teams get more film on them. The couple Iowa player interviews I’ve seen so far have mentioned a lot of different looks than they had seen (based on previous schools film). Kudos to them for throwing a bunch of new shit out there - now is the time to do it - but that opportunity only lasts so long.

0 sacks. Raynor didn’t really seem that good, or mobile. But, nobody could get to him.
