Never forget that with 30 seconds left in the 3rd Quarter Iowa had the ball at mid-field with 3rd and 5 and decided to go to the 4th quarter.

They spent the entire tv break coming up with a play and they came out and ran a HB dive to their non-power RB and gained 2 yards. Then they punted, got the ball back at the 50 and WENT BACKWARDS before fumbling on 3rd and 18.

Drives like the first 2nd half drive and the long pass to end the game happen to every defense.

That is ridiculous. Minnesota played to not lose the whole game. They were given gifts to score points, all of them because of Iowa screw ups or penalty.

Minnesota is awful and they deserved to lose as well.

Their defense took us out of our game plan early on, but then again, that’s not a huge accomplishment given our offensive struggles. Most teams we play have done that over the last 4/5 years.

Their offense is godawful but they made less mistakes and turnovers than we did. When you deliberately choose to engage in a “rock fight” vs a highly motivated underdog, playing at home, on homecoming, the margin for error is pretty small.

We deserved to lose today for a multitude of reasons.

When you run a system predicated on a balanced run game and play action to generate offense, you run the risk of making it easier for defenders to read their keys, flow to the ball more quickly and clog up passing lanes.

Teams very rarely have to defend the whole field vs Iowa and it shows, especially when we lack a true dual threat qb.

I will say that Lester has been better about at least getting some first downs here and there. That was terrible today, and I think it was so terrible because it brought us back to the days of Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz. Today wasn't the norm over the last couple of years, fortunately.

But it still sucked. And our QB situation is bad. But somehow not close to as bad as a few years ago.
