Did the defense dominate? Does it always, or is that a Petras era fiction? Isn't the offense familiar with the defense?
If you think an offense being “familiar” with the defense is the same thing as a defense knowing the offense’s plays than your dumber than I originally thought.

So the defense knows what play is going to be run? If true Ferentz is dumber than I thought and should be fired immediately.

I remember the main kid’s day highlight being a play where Heck would’ve gotten his head taken off by the blitzing LB in a real game but instead he waited a half second longer and threw a long TD pass to Vonhame since he knew the LB had to pull away. I thought it was pretty stupid for people to be impressed by it.
Did it look like this:

All of the man-beater stuff he was running early Saturday had guys with plenty of separation. Hank missed too many throws. If he had connected on more (not all) of them, it probably would have forced them out of Cover 1 and opened up the run game.

Ball control doesn’t matter as much against an offense like that with one of the best college WR of all time. The difference between making them go 60 or 85 yards is almost meaningless. We were going to have to score 24+. I think the plan he had to do that was sound.

In regards to downfield routes, they obviously take more time and it’s harder to beat OSU CBs on go balls than the intermediate rub routes that were getting guys open. Potential for yards after the catch were there.
Yep, the plan was solid. It could have worked if the passes were accurate.

Heck does remind me a bit of lil John The Criminal. No matter though, the hawks still win this game. Fisch is on the way out and most importantly, I don’t see how Washington can win when they’re down to playing one scholarship RB, a true freshman who wasn’t even expected to play this year.

LOL, he isn’t that small and unathletic. He might not be a giant douche starter, but he could play some places. Lll Lick was an NAIA backup level player.

In the opener I thought Hank looked better but it wasn’t by much. Heck arm didn’t seem strong but I think his style fits Lester more. I’m excited to see him get a whole game to work. Hank missed a lot of throws against OSU. Staying positive without unreal IowaFan expectations. Go Hawks.

he’s pretty small but decently athletic. Comparing a qb to a pg when it comes to physical prowess or lack thereof also is kinda dumb. Maybe if he was playing corner the analogy would work

I did a post on this a while ago, but crazy for like 20 years Iowa QB's were virtually indestructible and missed like 3 starts due to injury (Tate 2005, Stanzi 2009, Rudock 2014) and since 2020 it's been a revolving door of QB's getting injured.

For pure entertainment, tonight just got a lot more interesting with Heck starting for a bunch of reasons. Does he play like he did at KID'S DAY!!! (@Fair and Balanced) and the end of the Ohio State game and move this back to a full blown QB controversy going into the by week?

Does he suck and suddenly @CamelTones scenario plays out where Jimmy Sullivan steps in and wills Iowa to victory and suddenly the rumors of him being the actual best QB in camp per some of the players and he now enters the battle.

Most likely it will be a muddled mess where hopefully a victory can be pulled out, but I'm a lot more intrigued to watch now.

Hoping we get a better completion % and YPC out of the little slinger than we’ve got from Hank vs P5 opponents. If we do, he should start until he sucks.

If he comes out and plays anything like he did at Kids day, the bye week and the following week are going to be really interesting.

I think Heck is a bit more accurate on the short throws, but has a noodle arm beyond about 20 or 25 yards.
