Fan support for the basketball program has overall been poor since the end stages of the Alford era, so close to 20 years now. I think it died just after Northwestern State made that 3. College basketball is general has also declined in popularity over the last 20 years.

Idk what brings it back for Iowa. Maybe someone who actually has some success in the NCAA, it’s really the only part of college bball people even care about now.

Meh. Even those years were disappointing. We had 3 NBA players playing major minutes and a fourth relegated to the bench for a Freshman Patrick in 20/21 and didn’t even make a sweet sixteen.

Iowa fired/didn’t renew Dr. Tom because the program was stale. It didn’t work out at all. I love Fran and appreciate what he’s done, but I can understand wanting to move on. Hopefully they get the next coaching decision right.
