I honestly think the lack of ability for our WR to be consistently available is the bigger problem. We coach no turnovers so if a receiver isn’t completely uncovered our QB hesitate instead of doing what everyone else in the country does. The amount of times we actually try to let a receiver make a play is like 10%.

Gronowski not being able to throw an accurate pass doesn’t help the situation either.

Their balls were just too big. Kirk is so turnover adverse he completely handcuffs QBs. I get Gronowski was at an FCS school but you don’t throw for that many yards and not be a competent QB.

Then on Offense this is exactly what they try to do, including being so "risk averse" they completely abandon any forward pass to the middle of the field. Even simple 5 yard slants are seen as too dangerous.

Util of course they get down 17-7 in the 4th quarter and are forced to get into shotgun and out of the huddle and let it rip all over the middle of the field. Suddenly they are gaining huge chunks of passing yardage over the middle and marching up and down the field.

I don't know how they can see how ironic and idiotic that this all is and not change, but somehow they keep falling into their own trap.

2010 Stanzi put together one of the best QB seasons at Iowa in the past 30 years. It wasn't his fault his RBs couldn't keep it in their pants and the defense got gashed by anyone running the spread.
