We don’t need to run off Wagner because we aren’t going to take two grad/juco transfers. Brady is clearly gone, so we have room for one if we want. Anything else will be an epic cluster fuck.

I bet Pemsl and/or Kriener leave though.

I said in chat that a shitty scenario for Iowa basketball next year is being a bubble team and getting snubbed from the tourney. While many fans are saying NCAAs or bust next year, I'll guarantee Fran gets another year if they get to the NIT. Everyone and their mother will see it as tremendous improvement from this godforsaken season.
Yeah I have a hard time seeing Fran get fired if we're in the NIT next year.
That would mean 3 years with no tourney. That would mean the NIT for a boat load of upperclassmen, seasoned sophomores and at least one really good freshman. That should warrant seriously looking at a change.

Been stated but have to solve the leadership problem...someone needs to emerge and be a leader on the team.

Yes Connor can play PG but they need a grad transfer PG in the worst way.

Connor can facilitate and run the offense but this team sorely lacks an individual who can break down the defense and create an opportunity for someone else...
Agree, it sucks that bohannon acts like a bitch with no defensive effort. That rubs off, and guys don't give any effort.

On the bright side I've watched Kriener headbutt the official in slow motion around 25 times know. That has to be on the short list for highlight of the year.

Who are our other commits at that point besides Patrick? If he strikes out on the other guys we’re in on, time for him to bounce if they only make the NIT.

I understand the Fran frustration, but I definitely want to see Weiskamp and Patrick as hawks. Fran is a more than capable coach. This year sucks and is lost, but it’d be a shame to not see him coach what will be by far his most talented teams over the next couple of years.

If I'm Barta I give Fran an ultimatum. If CJ Frederick steps foot on campus you're fired. Find a way out and take a flyer on any other guard in America.

It has been a while since I have been this indifferent about the games being played. Usually I’m pumped for a couple of days leading up to the games and look forward to getting to the home games. I still watch, but it isn’t something I’m amped up about doing like it usually is.

CJ Fredrick, by all accounts, is a very good three point shooter who decided he would rather pay his own way at Iowa than go to a top 20 program in Xavier for free. Iowa needs a point guard, but CJ is not the issue here. CJ is already one hell of a Hawkeye

Even if he fucking sucks, he’s not taking the place of anyone that will matter.

It would be a different story if we ran off Williams in spring and could have pursued a 2018 pg. it’s pointless to waste time on that without a scholarship open.

Fuck CJ Frederick. Some of you act like it's not a problem to have some bum taking up the last scholarship, but Fran will play him. Iowa doesn't need another stiff, even if this shooting specialist can actually shoot.

bohannon had a lazy turnover from the top of the key with a minute left and a Rutgers player sprinted from the lane to the other end for a dunk while bohannon jogged to the half court line.

This team has no heart, no grit and no leadership. If you don't mind getting your dick kicked in and can't hustle for the full 40 minutes then fuck you. Mccaffrey sucks. They are unprepared for every game. When you are constantly down by 20 in the first half against teams that had a combined 1 big 10 win in Illinois and Rutgers and continue to play 12 guys with the same putrid defense and shitty zone press and continue to give up wide open 3's and post dunks mccaffrey can go fuck himself

Please explain how you think we could have logically added a player worth a shit without a fucking open scholarship.

There will be a ride open open in spring. CJ doesn’t affect shit.

It’s really not that difficult to understand. Better to bank the scholarship and try again next year than to tie it up for four years on a one dimensional role player.

This is simple, I'm sick of watching slow footed white guys.

Please explain how adding a player not worth a shit is helping?

Iowa was in the game until Fran ran 5 subs on the floor together. I feel bad for the kids taking the heat when Fran has assembled a team void of a point guard or any quickness.
At some point "he's better than The Criminal" will lose its appeal.

I don't get the substitutions. It seems like there are four possibilities, none of which are encouraging:

1) He has his system so he's going to run his system, even if all the evidence in front of him indicates that it's not working. Stubborn.

2) He's trying to find combinations that work by throwing shit on the wall and seeing what sticks. Desperate.

3) He doesn't want to hurt his kids' feelings -- he wants to show every guy on the roster that he has confidence in him, so everybody gets to play. Indulgent.

4) He sees that no lineup really wants to defend or grit it out, so he just throws them out there. Resigned.

Whatever the motivation(s), it's fucking ugly and sad basketball. At least Dr. Tom's two bad teams tried, and looked like they understood how to play defense.

I just want to say how impressed I am that you were watching the game with a minute left. I gave them the first five minutes of the 2nd half. This level of basketball is atrocious.

after the turnover to start the 2nd half I turned the channel. The highlight of the game for me was seeing Pemsl take an 8 foot jumper. Its the longest non free throw shot I can recall him ever attempting. When him and Wagner are in the game at the same time it reminds me of lining Zach Derby out wide..

Pemsl had a little 6-7 ft fade away with the left hand on the baseline as he was falling out of bounds to his left. When he shot it, I laughed. Then it hit nothing but net.

Literally every thing good they did in the second half against Illinois was forgotten. Moss played like ass, Garza came out launching from 3, Brady played, and the guards forgot that you don’t get to shoot the ball as a team when you turn it over.

No doubt. Learning time is over next year. Not only is an NCAA bid expected, but not a one and done type appearance. The core group next year will have played a ton of minutes for two years. NIT is absolutely not acceptable.

My initial post was tongue-in-cheek but I don't know how anyone can say it won't effect anything when we have seen Fran repeatedly throw Ellingson out there at PG.

Fran will find a way to put one dimensional players in a role they shouldn't be in to hurt the team. He couldn't figure out the Williams wasn't a PG, he can't figure out that Ellingson can't dribble, Nunge is a slightly different issue but Fran can't figure out he should be playing the 4 or 5. If you give this dumbfuck more guys with limitations, then he will continue to be a retard. The only cure IMO is to recruit more well rounded, two-way players to protect Fran from himself.

I'm guessing Patrick reclassifies and shows up at Iowa next year, think Marvin Bagley, and they run a lineup out there next year of, bohannon, Conner, Patrick, Cook and Weiskamp.

It's already lost it's appeal. Losing to Rutgers by 20 is below The Criminal level shit.

I just want to say that I fucking love Franny, and I hope he turns it around. But this team is playing deplorable basketball and it's on him and his staff. They are mentally checked out and when you're not the most athletic team in the world you have to be focused and tough or you end up getting sodomized by one of the shittiest P5 programs in the country. I'd rather see an untalented team play with grit than a talented team play like they don't give a fuck.

One of the best things about Fran's tenure has been the overlooked, humble and hard working kids he's recruited and how easy it is to root for them. That hasn't been the case this year.

At a school with the history, resources, and recruiting base of the University of Iowa, they should not be only making the tournament once every few years. At minimum making it in 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 4 years is a realistic expectation (expectations!) for this program.

I don't think Fran is going to get it done there. He's had what, eight years? He's had more than enough time to recruit and develop his own players, and wash off the stink from the The Criminal era.

One big concern is fans looking past this game to Purdue.
If fans look past Rutgers it could cost the team the game
Lmfao @LifelongHawk you just got pwnd here
That was a joke because doug already had a Purdue thread up, but whatevs. Hawk&Balls got it I think.

Another hugely disappointing game, damn. Only 2 guys scored the first 13 minutes for christ sake, but everybody chipped in to get 9 turnovers the first 11 minutes. True team effort.

I keep thinking this group is going to be good and in the next two years we'll look back upon this season differently, but damn a whole lotta guys laid big fucking eggs last night.

College hoops is such a funny game. Fucking Drake picked last in the Valley, still in first despite losing a 16 point lead at UNI. Bunch of pretty good seniors doing "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts."
Meanwhile we just suffered a 35 point negative swing from last year in sending the same guys to play at Rutgers, sigh.

lol at Margaret jokes, imagine the memories Connor and Patrick have from when they did something rotten and really pissed her off.....
