Please don’t use Fleck as an example of anything other than a dipshit douche. Thanks.
The dipshit as well as others have shown it wouldn't have been unprecedented to have him be head coach without being a coordinator.

Brian didn't need the offensive coordinator position to be HC. They could have given him some associate head coach position and it would have been great.
Hell, KF never called plays.
Fleck was never an OC nor was Dabo before he became head coach.
I’m sorry, What is your point?

That Brian is taking an unnecessary risk to try to make himself/ the program better? Idk, just spitballing here.

LOL, no. Brian needs to get better at coaching, mature, and better at leading. That’s why he wanted the OC job.

My wife sent me videos this morning of AJ Epenesa chasing my youngest daughter around a duck duck goose circle and playing basketball with my son. There was a little "carnival" for heart kids at UIHC this morning and 8 or 10 players were there to hang out with the kids. She said the kids were having a blast and the players were really engaging with the kids.

Edit to add, evidently my middle daughter had them all playing "inside out" and "the incredibles" as well.

And the helmet numbers are on a compass? Wtf? All that really fits with the school mascot of a small rodent.

That would be hard to be excited about. If it works for the kids that is fine, but if he doen’t win people will hate it.

Not to be outdone, Matt Campbell will be having a tire painted on the 50 yard line at Jack Trice.

People should hate it anyway. It's Fleck's personal brand, and its only relation to the program is that he's the coach at the moment. They may as well put a picture of his stupid fucking face on the helmet. The Minnesota AD should be ashamed they let this happen.

“Hey, PJ Fleck here, coach of the elite University of Minnesota Golden Gophers! How would you like to come play for me?”

“Good to hear from you coach, been meaning to get in touch with you as I have a question.”

“Great! Hit me with it”

“Well, you say you’re the Gophers right?”

“You got it champ!”

“Ok, then why is there an oar and compass on the helmet? Did the gopher lose it’s way but find a boat?”

“Elite, that’s why!”

This post was worse than anything Fleck has done at Minnesota. You should feel bad.

My guess is that if the AD doesn't feel bad about letting multiple raper Reggie Lynch continue to practice with the team, the gang rapes pulled off by the football team or his predecessor groping subordinates, he's probably not getting too bent out of shape over this.

The best thing going into the next 2 years is Iowa has a really good quarterback with a potential of being 1st round pick material at some point. It seems whenever Iowa has a really good quarterback they are either good to great. It seems that way with almost every team. Even shitty Minnesota won 9 games 2 years ago with Leidner.

2001 - McCann was serviceable and got 7 wins
2002 - Brad Banks was Heisman level and went 11-2
2003 - Chandler was serviceable and got 10 wins
2004 - Tate was small but damn good and got 10 wins
2005 - Tate injured and beat by Iowa State, beat by Top 5 Ohio State, got robbed against Michigan in overtime, lost by 1 on the road at Northwestern, robbed by C-USA officials in bowl game and still got 7 wins.
2006 - Tate banged up, lost to 4 Top 15 teams and ended up at 6 wins
2007 - Christen sucked and 6 wins and no bowl game
2008 - Stanzi is a huge upgrade and 9 wins
2009 - If Stanzi isn't injured, they might be close to playing for a national championship. 11 wins.
2010 - Stanzi is good and they led every game until 3 min left. Drug problems. 8 wins.
2011 - Vandenberg is mediocre and a pants shitter but they have McNutt. 7 wins
2012 - Vandenberg + Greg Davis = Disaster and 4 wins
2013 - Rudock is decent even with Greg Davis, good defense and 8 wins
2014 - Rudock/Beathard battle. Shit multiple games down their leg. 7 wins
2015 - Beathard mostly healthy and NFL level. 12 wins
2016 - Beathard mostly injured but still damn good. 8 wins
2017 - Stanley damn good even in as what should be his redshirt freshman and no WR worth a shit and one of the toughest schedules in the country. 8 wins

I think as long as Stanley is healthy, Iowa is contending to be a double digit win team this year and next year.

With the possible exception of post-Ott 2015, every one of the good teams also had elite level defensive line play. 2018 and 2019 are looking good on that front as well.

If the linebackers aren’t dogshit, I really like the next couple years’ potential. That was a big part of the 2010 disappointment.

They also might have the best TE group in the nation.

I actually think there is a reasonable chance that this is Stanley’s last year.

He's got the arm and size. If he has a big year and projected to go high, why stay?

Easley should be used to big ten velocity next year. He’s actually pretty decent.
