When the one constant of the Kirk era has been struggling to get wideouts, it might be reasonable to include who they are throwing to in the tate got worse/ vandy got worse discussions
I think this is only really true post-McNutt, before that we were mostly fine outside of some down periods where everyone got hurt like 04, or when the whole City Boyz Inc mess blew up and we lost a bunch of promising guys all at once
The 2006 unit was not good/young. Just saying it should always be a caveat when discussing raw numbers of Iowa qbs.

Yeah that year wasn't good although Douglas was good for a freshman and could have been something if he hadn't gotten in trouble. Same for James Cleveland who went on to have a pretty nice career with Houston. Those guys getting booted super early set us back until DJK and McNutt really blossomed in 09.

All of you are discounting Kirk QB regression. He will be worse next year.
Probably because that isn't a thing that actually exists
yeah but has Iowa ever won more games than the year before with a returning starter?
Ferentz has only had a returning starter play a majority of the season 5 times.

Tate, Stanzi, Vandenberg, Rudock and Beathard.

Most of those the QB either statistically got better or there was a pretty good explanation of why it went badly.

Like most people with a pulse, you regularly complained about 4 of those 5 guys getting worse and/or film retarded as their careers progressed.

Stanzi Junior Year: 56% completion, 2,400 yards, 17 TDs, 15 INTs (like 6 of which were pick 6s), 131 rating

Stanzi Senior Year: 64% completion, 3,000 yards, 25 TDs, 6 INTs, 157 rating.

Clearly a QB who regressed
He was worse. My eyes told me so.

The narrative exists because the teams got worse/less lucky in close games from one year to the next and people assume wins and losses are 100% on the QB for some reason
People talked about it after Tate, but for some reason this really became a thing with Iowa fan Stanzi's senior year which was dumb as shit. "He's not clutch anymore!"
He wasn't.

Beebs is right. They all regressed. With the exception, ironically, of Rudock.

The only 2 games Iowa lost Stanzis senior year where the offense had the ball and failed to score at the end were Arizona and Wisconsin right? Arizona the new offensive lineman couldn’t block for him on that drive. Wisconsin he made a terrible decision to throw the ball short to Adam Robinson when they were close to field goal range and no timeouts. The clock expired.

The rest they had the lead (could even include Wisconsin here) and the defense couldn’t get a step because Troy Johnson played a lot.

the defense got a stop versus Wisconsin....then the fake punt which everyone in the stadium(besides Iowas coaches) saw coming.

Clearly the issue in 2010 was that the QB stopped spotting the other team a TD in almost every game, and not that the defense kept getting gassed late and giving up leads.

How can you watch Iowa of all fucking teams and still cling to the facile idea that QBs win or lose games all by themselves?

Upon further review I forgot he did throw that terrible interception against NW when they were going in to take a 24-7 lead.

The 2010 offense, already weaker personnel wise than 2009 from the gitgo (Bulaga, Moeaki, Wegher, probably Calloway), lost not only its top two running backs, but had to play the second half of season with a (maybe) 6', 280 pound walk-on right guard, who lined up next to a 6', 280 pound sophomore center.

The idea of that team being some super team drives me nuts. The most loaded team personnel wise was 2008, but it took that one a while to gel. 2009 with a returning Shonn Greene was a playoff team.

Kittle gave comments about the Hawk draft prospects for the niners sbnation site.

Welsh, Daniels, Wadley

Jackson, Jewell

Damn I’m gonna miss watching JJ play

Have you been tackled by Jewell? Yes. Multiple times. Multiple times. He is a violent, physical guy. He hits you to hit you and it’s not like he’s doing it because he has to tackle you. He intends to punish you. It’s awesome.

In a perfect world Jackson gets drafted by the Chargers and I adopt an NFL team to watch every week with them having King and him

Their pick position is about right, if not a bit soon but CB is about 4th in their list of needs.

I haven't read this entire thread, but it seems like some dipshits are saying Stanzi regressed (goddam I hate that word) from his junior to senior season. I really hope not, because that's a really, really stupid thing to say.

It’s amazing that this narrative exists unless you ignore statistics and injuries.

Same thing about Fran being able to develop players.

works for me

smoking hot blonde wearing way too many clothes
Matt Vandenberg is a very fortunate man. I think she secretly likes the smell of shoulder pads...kind of like Miss Honeywell in Porky's liked
sweatsocks.

As someone who is familiar with aging, I'm not so sure it will be kind to her.
